How are these rules? are they like Sharp Practice for World War 1?

thanks

I didn't play Sharp Practice but if you played IABSM or Charlie Don't Surf, it's that for WW1.

It has some pretty heavy changes to fit the period and a TON of flavour.

It's also at a scale most games ignore, which is a plus.

The only only only downside is that it's definitely intended more for trench fighting than early war open field combat, but it's a great ww1 game and easily one of the best for individually based figures.

Doesn't have the humour of Sharpe Practice, but is probably the best WW1 game I've played. Well worth getting.

Umpired a multi player game in which each player has a squad of Tommys advancing to contact with the Hun trench lines the kicker (pun intended) was each squad had a football they kicked forward based on a EDN system so the further you could get your ball the faster your squad moved through no-mans land the opposition had to pick which squad to use their MGs on to slow the advance any ball that got kicked into the Jerry trenches won the game for that squad, lots of hilarious fun but we were all mindful of the horror of the actual events during the Great War (I made people playing take note of that) TtB&M delivers and is actually good for anything between 1900 up to mid 20th century where people are charging against MGs and the like. I do recommend them.

Yeah, as Vigilant says, it's pretty grim, which fits the setting I suppose.

Sharp Practice with barbed wire and shell holes sounds about right. As noted above, fewer laughs.

They are very good for playing small unit actions at any period in WW1 including the Early War, though they are designed to bring out the tactical developments from 1916 onwards.

If you decide on trying Through the Mud and the Blood you may also want to take a look at TFL's Play the Game, a compendium of WW1 articles, scenarios and campaigns from 11 years of TFL Specials. Although there is information for If The Lord Spares Us, TFL's other WW1 game, there is a wide range for M&B as well as a Chain of Command/M&B combo

Outstanding set of rules. My favorite set of ww1 rukes. 30-70 figs a side with excellent supports, tons of scenarios. Highly recommended.
