I have some of the Grand Manner Spanish Napoleonic buildings and I"m wondering what colors to use painting them. How should I prime them. I prefer grey spray hobby primer from armory or black Gesso, but I am open to new ideas. Also I generally use Vallejo acrylics, once again I am open to suggestions.

What are they made of?

I have painted Spanish and Italian buildings by priming them white. Then I "painted" a little bit of water on them. I took a small amount of tuscan red, yellow and ochre and put it on the wet wall, then blended them together. Try it on a piece of cardboard first. Its pretty easy to do.

When I get around to doing my Mexican and Spanish buildings I plan on using the same color scheme that I used with my Middle Eastern buildings. Like you I use Vallejo acrylics. My color scheme for the stucco walls was:
Flat Black base color followed by dry brushing the following
German Cam Orange Ochre for the overall color
Ochre Brown the 1st highlight color
Saddle Brown + German Cam Orange Ochre mix the 2nd highlight color
German Cam Orange Ochre + Beige mix 3rd highlight color
Beige + German Cam Orange Mix (Beige dominate) 4th highlight color
Beige 5th highlight color

Well, that is cool – Richard sharing one of his painting recipes with us oh-polloi. Always like seeing his work.

Those nice people at TimeCast have a tutorial on painting Mediterranean buildings.

Thank you very much. The color scheme on these buildings is probably one of my best efforts… in my opinion. So I like passing it along. Richard

I use Martha Stewart "Stucco Effects", prime black, then use cheap craft paints. Base coat is followed by a heavy wash of sepia, followed by three light colors dry-brushed onto the texture created by the stucco. Works fairly well I think.

Thank you all for the advice. I am especially intrigued by your method Richard. I have admired your work on your CoC campaign on the SCW site Prima Lucem, and I am glad to have your recipe as well. That is an intriging method Bill, I will try it. I should have provided a link to Grand Manner, and here it is. link Any suggestions for roof tiles?

The buildings are resin, Hafen von Schlokenberg.

Different parts of spain will have different colour schemes – depending on local building materials.

Red roof is not in whole of spain, but I like the look.

I use craft paints for scenery because they are much cheaper and so am I. I have't looked at stucco effect but that's a good idea. I refuse to buy anything branded Martha Stewart just to stir things up.

I'd start with white primer – you'll be better able to gradually build up warm sun-lit tones, keeping the whole thing looking light and natural. If you need some areas in dark shadows you can paint them in exactly where you need them. Black kills the the whole thing and you just create a huge amount of work for yourself to get back to natural looking hues and tones.

Do some photo research on line and find some images of the real thing to copy.

I understand that the buildings in the Carlist region would be a bit more like the middle of france, stone buildings rather than traditional mediteranean red roofed stucco. Sorry another button counter, the stucco will still look really nice I am sure.

Ilike information such as the Carlist regions would be more like the middle of France. I am agonizing over how to paint the pottery on my buildings, as an amateur archaeologist. Please send me more button counter trivia.
