Doing some more time-wasting wishing. Maybe it will inspire some manufacturer out there somwhere. I couldn't add it to my last topic because something is not functioning and the thread cannot be added to, even though it shows a rising, though inaccurate, count every time I try to post there.

You may notice there is only 1 katana (assuming it's real, how common is training in the katana, really?) along with some martial arts weapons (because I know there are places where one can train in such things in Australia).

No chainsaws, though there is a scrubcutter, usually for gladiatorial contests. Also a glass bottle (I have felt such bottles. I'm sure you can kill with one.)

I don't know about other places in the world, but the SKS is super common here in Canada.

They're about $200 USD a pop.

Also, Mosin-Nagant 91/30s are pretty much cheaper than dirt everywhere.

Historically, those scythes got the blade removed, turned 90 to align with the shaft, and reattached.

Ax wise, I prefer a double bit cruiser – 28 inch handle, 2-1/2 lb head.

With some time on one's hands a spike could be added at the top. 28 inch handle is still fairly maneuverable and 2-1/2 lb is light enough to swing for a while, but still heavy enough to do some damage.

For closer work -

A saddle cruise with a 16 inch handle -

Or the classic framing hammer, 16 inch handle with a 28 oz head -

Very similar in profile to the medieval war hammers.

Or then the geology hammers -

Long handled -

Construction sites and mining camps for those.

Standard -

Or square faced -

Even more war hammery.

I forgot on that last thread the mace I have that a friend gave me. He took a couple of worn out differential gears -

sharpened the edges a bit more, and mounted each on a 16 inch hardwood shaft. I wire wrapped the handles do he gave me one.

Lots of ways to make a home made mace – a length of pipe with a fitting on one end would be one.

Here in the US they're also common as dirt. They show up at gun shows by the dozens in shipping crates still packed in Vaseline like cosmoline, or something similar. So, as I've said before, at least here in the US you wouldn't need any of those hand-to-hand weapons as there are enough firearms here for every suburban and rural community to arm themselves completely. Never bring a carpenters hammer to a gunfight.

There should be an eqivalent saying for bringing a gun to a hammer fight (knifefight, etc.) In fact, somewhere in my collection there is a modern fantasy RPG that states that a gun is the most practical weapon except in circumstances where guns don't work, such as facing a mage with a spell that causes mechanical unreliability or failures, then a sword would be better. The game states outright that a wise warrior carries both.

Would have added some, but didn't have any good isolated pics.

Goragrad – those combat scythes are not in production.

Terrement, that's a scrubcutter, not a weedeater. Do not mix those two up in the garden; you will not be satisfied with the results. A weapon of desperation, like most powered garden tools, it is best used to fight your way to a better weapon (preferably in the same room), but should make cage fights rather spectacular. Also your pipe creation (I had some furniture made from that pipe in the '80s, it's quite brittle) would suffer the same problems as the bottle (in fact, I've felt the odd empty alcohol bottle, and I suspect many bottles would actually last longer).

In all cases, they are weapons that might be there (though the swords may be unlikely, as they are not commonly produced with actual combat use in mind, even if they are not made just to be ornaments) rather than the best for the job.

Balthazar, SKS is a category D weapon here and is illegal unless you can somehow convince the authorities you need a self-loading centrefire rifle with a capacity of over 5 rounds with detachable magazine, and can't do your job with a bolt-action rifle with fixed magazine or break-action shot-gun.

Hopefully the apocalypse will happen before the Socialists disarm us here in the US as well. :-)

Hey…there's an idea for a scenario! The socialists try to disarm the law abiding citizens and the citizens revolt. Some police go with the socialists and some go with the citizens. The national Guard steps in, trying not to use any weapons heavier than Humvees, as killing people en masse would look bad for the party. The scenario would be similar to "Red Dawn", only it would be the US citizens against their own government! Squads of organized veterans of Viet Nam and the Gulf Wars who have become competitive shooters fighting against squads of US G.I.s. Yeah, I know. It sounds like a right-wing wet dream, but I think it would be great fun!

Don't forget to include a rolling pin in your armory:

Or a cane.
