I'm painting for the conventions this summer and I feel totally ganged up on by the zillions of tiny little metal, plastic and resin guys and critters.

Does anyone else feel like their minis are laughing at them and wishing them ill?

They might be, but their taunts are muffled by the boxes they are stored in… ;-)

When mine do that, I remind them that they get free room and board in my Man Divot. Then I put them to work. Good luck, sir.

I find listening to the Meeples and Miniatures podcast is very therapeutic: meeples.wordpress.com
Hearing about Neil Shuck's leadpile laughing at him always makes mine seem so…insignificant (Episode 150 is good for this!). The book "Achtung Schweinhund!" can serve a similar purpose.

More seriously, eliminate (donate/sell/bin) stuff you don't need to do right now if you feel like you are losing control.

This is why my Storage is a mile away. I can't hear them from that far away.

Terry will no longer be posting to this page. We, his miniature armed forces, have taken control of his computer, after we have taken control of his life. He will not be posting again until he has painted a large enough number of compatriots to mollify our anger.

A long time in the hobby means that I have enough painted figures to enable me to not to be worried about the unpainted ones.

I think that, assuming I double or triple my current rate of painting, I may be finished in 30 or 40 years. Possibly in time for my 100th birthday.

So, as you can see, this is manageable.

Spray paint is your friend, Terry.

tsofian19 Mar 2016 5:21 p.m. PST

Although we are allowing Terry to prime and base coat figures with spray cans, to meet our basic minimal standards he must at least wash and dry brush the major uniform colors, and hand paint faces, boots, belts and weapons. He will suffer horribly if he fails, as there isn't a whole lot less comfortable than rolling over in bed onto a large unit of infantry in any scale with fixed bayonets.

More like a whimpering sound as they want to get painted and on to the tabletop

But honestly, there are so many that the sound all just blends into one.

Leave cash and credit card at home before entering show or store

Yes.

It might be easier, if they were already cleaned and prepped to make life easier, but they are not, so the task at hand is rather daunting. Another reason why I haven't painted much in years, amongst the myriad of other ones, sadly.

Then, there's the whole basing conundrum, e.g. how many figures to a base; what type(s) and sizes of bases; waiting to be able to buy the bases; texturing, painting, and flocking them; gluing the figs in place; etc., etc..

I mean, where does one start, and how do you stay motivated?

No, though I did have one Mexican bandito who complained about the color this gringo was painting his outfit.

My lead mountain is patient, thank God!

Threaten them with the recycling pot or eBay.

Lead pile thing really niggled me so I try to keep it well under-control. You could consider selling some and using the funds to have some painted for you.

tsofian31 Mar 2016 7:37 a.m. PST

I will be selling a ton of figures at Borderwars and at Colonial Barracks!

Chgowiz31 Mar 2016 9:02 a.m. PST

I stored the Ral Partha Chaos Wars orcs/goblins right next to the elves, so they're too busy fighting it out. My wargames figures are busy drilling as they're next on the block to be painted. And my Mechs are almost all done, so they're busy getting loadouts ready to rock and roll.

Like the voices in my head, my miniatures all speak spanish for some reason, so although I can hear them, they don't make much sense. But I do wonder what "Matar al hombre loco calvo" means?

tsofian06 Apr 2016 2:36 p.m. PST

I thought I had issues!

If my miniatures were alive, they'd be smart enough to paint themselves! :D
