Anyone know if this is any worth to a new wargamer like myself?

link

Also, anyone know of a good book that deals with the different weapons and armour used in ww2?

For that matter, I'd really like to read about the armies and tactics in medieval and Napoleonics too.

Something to research that will aid me with the tactial side of things and something that's a good riveting read too

Thanks all

EDIT: Preferably from retailers in the UK

While I don't have it, from what I've heard about the Wargaming Compendium, I think it's definitely a good starting point.

Amber Books has some introductory level books that are usually on sale at Amazons and the like, including "Fighting Techniques of the Napoleonic Age" and "Fighting Techniques of the Medieval World". They also have some for other periods. There are other references that get into more detail (including Osprey books on just about everything), but those are ok samplers.

Keegans Face of Battle is excellent. Covers several periods. For Napoleonics specifically Campaigns of Napoleon by Chandler is outstanding.

Rothenburg's "The Art of Warfare in the Age of Napoleon" deals with armies, weapons, tactics & strategy.
It's very readable, too.

"The Wargamer's Compendium' is the best general wargaming book available.

I already own The Face of Battle and A History of Warfare, both by John Keegan.

I've not read either, so which would you recommend I start on? I've heard Face of Battle is a good read but what about A History of Warfare? Anyone read both?

I've read both, I'd say Face of Battle is the lighter and more generalist of the two reads.
