There is an interesting article in this months Miniature Wargames with Battlegames (issue 395) in which Gary Pready uses The Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game from Games Workshop as the basis of a game to fight Game of Thrones.

I found it and interesting read a with many good points.

Well worth picking up.

A Game Effort – making a wargame out of Game of Thrones by Gary Pready (page 54 – 60).

One reason I never wargame novels is that the outcome is totally dependent on the author.
It's like wagering on professional wrestling.

If you want deus ex machina, wargame Tolkien. ("And then the eagles showed up!")
If you want all the people you like to die, do GoT.

(D)..I would consider it if they brought out figures for it. The WOTR figures most people use are nothing like the costumes in the show.

My usual caveat is that if someone else does all the work I will play on your game.

herkybird indeed the WotR Figures most people use are nothing like the costumes they use in GoT but the costumes are not in the books by Martin either! In the books you get the picture of a high medieval world therefor the WotR or HYW figures are quite convincing!

Oh , I use Dragon Rampant for GoT games works quite well

If you go by the costumes in the series, then the northren kingdoms always lose.

Thin soft leather "armor" is quite bad vs full plate enemies, even if some of those plate armors are badly designed.

It would be the medieval equivalent of Martini-Henry vs hide shields and spears.

I've considered it. I would also use the FFG Game of Thrones boardgame (2nd ed) as the campaign manager. Really good boardgame anyway.
