I'm about to paint Lord Leven's Regiment for LOA. I intend to have two flags, its a Scottish regiment so one will be a saltire the other will be the colonel's colour and I'm stuck there. Any suggestions? Thanks. |

Edinburgh regiment I believe, so have a look at the Edinburgh city coat of arms. or adapt the Leven family arms. |

A bit previous to the League of Augsburg, but this is a description of Alexander Leslies ensign in the First Bishops War of 1639, Leslie of course was made Earl of Leven prior to the ECW. "The Generall Lessley's ensigne had for his device a bible, crossed through with two scepters, and a crowne set upon it, with this word, Tuemur legibus et armis jure divino et civili". As you say, likely White for the Colonels company and a saltire for the rest, often White on blue but others possible. |

I suppose the saltire could be blue on white to echo the Leslie colours? I might go with plain white but with Tuemur legibus et armis jure divino et civili written on it as the colonel's colour. Thanks Timbo. |

Seems very sensible to me OB, in the absence of anything more from your time period. |

Yeah should look nice too as Leven's wore a red coat with white facings and grey bonnet, breeches and stockings. |

Very nice Ray. You wouldn't consider adding it to your NYW flags link would you? Hint, hint. |
