Some more pictures of games my friends have in Greece. This time rural Attica.

Wow! That is a lot of different games. I bet you guys had a lot of fun. There is quite a bit of kit on that table. What version of the rules were you playing? I'm guessing the current edition as you have a lot of the new stuff.

Hi Pictors. Not me I am afraid. 40k simply has too many special rules for my cup of tea.I do have 1500 points worth of Marines I take out now and then to keep a friend happy, but its not a system I enjoy (I love the backstory). Perhaps at smaller points and with a narrative as you do Age of Sigmar, but narrative play is disliked by most players who are heavy into the competitive min-max thing. If you play 40k in Greece you have to accept that to a point.

Yes, the 40k community in Greece follows the GW updates so they are playing the current edition. Lots of airpower and use of the new objectives system (which I liked in the abstract but dislike how they implemented it). They really seem to like it if I can judge from my friends.

The community centers around specific game stores and game-coffee-bars that offer space (usually free of charge or very cheap) for gaming as opposed to club gaming (there are clubs mind you).

I see. We have been playing 3rd edition again and have been having fun with that.

I've also been thinking about incorporating some of the Age of Sigmar scenarios into the games. There are a lot that would work straight up in 40K and some that would require a little tweaking.

I think the newest version of 40K has too many special rules for my liking as well.

3rd Edition is great. All the army lists in one book is my preferred way. Its the edition I first tried (With an IG army that lost 74 of 75 games). But the gamers in Greece are very GW loyal. I am not saying the new edition is bad. They actually put a lot of the good things to it. But the special rules thing is ridiculous. To be frank BBB has spoiled me.

The thing that killed me was all the new special weapon rules. I guess if you only played 40K it wouldn't be too bad. In 3rd edition there were a few rules for special weapons but generally it was power weapons ignore armour, power fists double strength and ignore armour, monstrous creatures ignore armour and do 2d6 and that was pretty much it. Most of the stuff fell into those categories.

There were some army specific weapons like poisoned weapons and the agonizer but mostly it was simple. Now even the close combat weapons have a stat line.
