Hi Kyote, how's things? Do I smell coffee?

Goonfighter08 Mar 2016 12:59 p.m. PST

Pleased to hear it. That's what we want to hear mate.

Yes, kyote please keep that under control …

It's the only way to be sure
If I had a dollar for every time I had said that … laugh

Goonfighter08 Mar 2016 2:15 p.m. PST

Sure of what though? Seems like the thin end of a global conspiracist wedge to me. Spreading fear of rampaging grammar neo-fascists to roll out a sinister totalitarian spelling correctionistic hegemony that will make you wish, wish I tell you that you only chafed under the yoke of international communism.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP08 Mar 2016 3:09 p.m. PST

Well … there is that too …

Goonfighter08 Mar 2016 3:31 p.m. PST

The question is this Legion, do you want to be able to spell and grammaticise like a free man or will you surrender meekly to the comma commissars? To these Gauleiters of the gerund? Did Davy Crockett worry about subjunctives on the walls of the Alamo? Did Washington insist that every continental had a pocket dictionary? Benedict Arnold could spell and he used the correct first person conjunctive. NEED I SAY MORE?

I always ask them to spell anti-disestablishmentarianism. That's the only way to be sure.

Goonfighter08 Mar 2016 4:36 p.m. PST

Well said Kyote, well said. You took those apostrophes and used em like you meant it.

Thing is Legion, there's a line in the sand here. You can stay where you are and watch as slowly they make you spell favour with a "u' or even say "lavatory" instead of "washroom". Can we still say "lavatory" on TMP? Or is that battle lost already? Say it isn't so. You see, the doubt's they plant?

Its the last reel of the Wild Bunch, Legion, the rest of the team are gone, rubbed out like badly spelt hypotheses in a maths test. Me and Kyote, we got a job to do, it ain't like the old days but you're welcome to come along down the trail of misused semi colons: to boldly split infinitives and show these spelling dictators how real men spell stuff.

Or, you gonna just sit there?

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP08 Mar 2016 4:38 p.m. PST

NEED I SAY MORE?
It's better to die on your spelling than live on your subjunctives ! I think ? huh?

Goonfighter08 Mar 2016 4:40 p.m. PST

Do I detect a hint of sarcastitude?

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP08 Mar 2016 4:40 p.m. PST

Where's the 30 cal. water cooled MG ?

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP08 Mar 2016 4:42 p.m. PST

sarcastitude?
No he got shot by the bandits … I think ?

Goonfighter08 Mar 2016 4:52 p.m. PST

Now that's the thing. It's traditionally placed in front of about 500 angry Mexicans. Tricky thing tradition eh?

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP08 Mar 2016 4:53 p.m. PST

Indeed ! Like a bad Cinco De Mayo party !

Goonfighter08 Mar 2016 5:13 p.m. PST

I could sing, Kyote but it would only scare the horse's. Autocorrect eh? Who kneads it?

Goonfighter08 Mar 2016 11:51 p.m. PST

Is that at all meals or just for breakfast, Kyote?

It's better than lime juice, ships biscuits' and a flogging. Where do I sign?

nazrat09 Mar 2016 7:35 a.m. PST

Well. Martin (Banned for Hating Trolls) is banned for quite the opposite. Can't say I'm sorry…

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP09 Mar 2016 7:45 a.m. PST

I love that song Kyote !

For Breakfast, I'm thinking frijolies[guess autocorrect doesn't do all Hispanic words!?], tortillas and hot green hanbanero sauce. [See another Hispanic word not corrected !!] It does no do Klingon either ! huh?

Well it seems "The world again revolves in greased groves."

Martin (Banned for Hating Trolls) is banned for quite the opposite.
Based on another thread here it appears he did a Kamikazi attack [seems autocorrect does not do Japanese either ! huh? ] …

PrivateSnafu09 Mar 2016 11:25 a.m. PST

It's gotten a bit weird. Lots of agendas, grudges, past history, and inside humor. I like to operate above board and this no longer suits my taste. I can't be anyone's acolyte anymore other than my own. That flame out was interesting.

It was never about the actual grammar. Write anyway you want, no problem for me. This was about Winston's thin skin, his arrogance, and his personal attack response.

Bill, I really don't know what to say other than my condolences. I am sorry that your parole keeps getting denied year after year. You are a very patient and tolerate person something to aspire to, however you need to work on your compassion its sorely lacking. These inmates, I mean patients, are being seriously under-prescribed by you.

I'm going to wrap this up and other than a quip here or there, thanks for the fun times.

I also may launch a couple well deserved jabs at Winston in the future because….well it's just too easy.

Cyrus the Great09 Mar 2016 11:58 a.m. PST

It's not a private party. Anytime you want, just join in the fun.

to quote Hunter S Thompson, when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. I thought the whole grammar and spelling thing absurd and I think it showed. Kyote, Legion and I seemed to have had a good laugh in the process and so I thank you for the opportunity.

I think Legion, kamikazi is easily misspelt as "camo-karzi", British army slang for a camouflaged toilet; perhaps that's what autocorrect was trying to do.

See you in the Saloon, Kyote!

CeruLucifus09 Mar 2016 3:04 p.m. PST

PrivateSnafu, I read the links but I'm missing the "personal attack", "flame war", and "bullying" elements that you allude to. Winston Smith's post does not mention any names or link to any other topics.

Perhaps when you accidentally use bad grammar, you should say "oops, thank you for catching that" and move on? Try to learn from the mistake? And …

PrivateSnafu: @Winston, thanks. I "dont" care.
… possibly you should admit that you *do* care?

FWIW I found Winston Smith's post quite funny and although I remembered your post with the misplaced apostrophe, I didn't remember who had posted it, just felt in-the-know that I knew Winston's inspiration.

Some people like to hide behind a keyboard, they think that they're clever saying things that they would be too scared to say in the real world.

Well put foxweasel … well put … thumbs up

Are we deleting Napoleonic battles now? If so I have the following requests:
Ulm 1805 as its a bit too embarrassing for the Austrians
New Orleans 1815, I think we all know why and
Wagram 1809 as my mate Kev always called it War-gam and that was really annoying. Oh, we've done that one already.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian10 Mar 2016 2:46 p.m. PST

Posts from Wagram 1809 removed, as he is a banned member returning to do some "concern trolling."

Goonfighter10 Mar 2016 3:24 p.m. PST

As this is a grammar related thread…..surely you meant "who returned"? "Returning" suggests that he's still doing it.

Goonfighter10 Mar 2016 3:34 p.m. PST

Well, perhaps I was a bit harsh there Kyote but I've been painting DPM in 28mm. Need I say more?

Woolshed Wargamer11 Mar 2016 12:58 p.m. PST

The Grammar Police are everywhere – not just TMP. I try to get things right but I type pretty fast and am terrible at proof reading before hitting submit. My most common mistakes are a colon instead of an apostrophe (Brian;s instead of Brian's) and transposing 'ing' letter at the end of a word (Typign instead of Typing).

Mate – I wouldn't worry about someone getting upset at your proof-reading. Life is too short.

That was my thinkign anyway. (yeah that was deliberate)

Rubber Suit Theatre11 Mar 2016 4:26 p.m. PST

Calling everyone who does something that you don't personally care for a cowardly bully in a sad attempt to get the community to punish them for you is weak, sniveling neoteny of an odious schoolyard flavor. This is a genuinely disgusting level of effort put into whining. Pretending that it's bravery is a grave insult to anyone that's actually faced danger or adversity. Please go back to the land of participation trophies from whence you sprung.

All of the fun time's me and Winston had lost to the ether…

vtsaogames15 Mar 2016 1:29 p.m. PST

I have seen a grammatically incorrect press release savaged in the press. It should have been caught before it was released. It was from the Board of Education.
