They seem to be exactly the same.

"A few days ago TOS movie era writer and director Nicholas Meyer was announced as having joined the new Star Trek TV series as a writer and producer. Den of Geek have now posted an interview with him, giving the first tiny hints at the influences on the new Star Trek series, with perhaps the most interesting note that The Undiscovered Country (the best TOS movie, sorry Khan fans) has been picked out as particularly influential.

"The one thing I can relate to you is that The Undiscovered Country—according to Bryan [Fuller]—is a real sort of taking off point, or touchstone for how I guess he's thinking about the direction of the new show. I don't want to be misquoted and I don't want to misquote him, but he's fond of that film. Let's put it that way"

That answer came off of being asked about the politics of Trek, in reference to both The Voyage Home and The Undiscovered Country. So while there are many different things you could take a direction from The Undiscovered Country, I certainly wouldn't mind a sharp commentary on the current state of global politics (or environmental issues for that matter)…"

I hate to disagree with you Armand but everyone knows that the best TOS movies are, in descending order;

1)Khan

2)Voyage Home

3)Undiscovered Country

wolfgangbrooks07 Mar 2016 3:09 p.m. PST

Sorry, but Forbidden Planet is the best Star-Trek movie.

DesertScrb07 Mar 2016 6:17 p.m. PST

No, Galaxy Quest is the best Trek movie.

Chuckaroobob07 Mar 2016 7:14 p.m. PST

Khan. All day long. End of discussion.

Norrins08 Mar 2016 3:38 a.m. PST

1) Khan
2) Undiscovered Country
3) Voyage Home

&

4) First 15 minutes of Generations! – Proved to me that they should still have been making TOS films.

Khan is number one for me, and then Undiscovered Country and First Contact.

I love Voyage Home for the humour but I prefer the others above for seeing more of the Star Trek Universe.

You aren't; note the quote marks.

Anyone who clams UC as the "best" Star Trek film has lost all credibility with me on any other point of opinion regarding the Star Trek franchise.
Khan is superior in every way, from script to plot to directing and even acting.
The order is:
Khan
Voyage Home
First Contact
Search for Spock
The Motion Picture
UC
(Scroll, scroll, scroll)
The other TNG films
Final Frontier
(Scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll… You get the idea…South side of Hell…)
Anything by Abrams

Kahn
First contact
UC
Voyage home
Insurrection (yes i like it!)
Search for spock
The movie
Generations
Nemesis

The rest don't count. They are none canon.

Capt Flash27 Mar 2016 5:33 a.m. PST

Ha! I loved them all… But then again I'm a fan-boy(as opposed to a Trekker/Trekkie)

Just seen this on the new series. "More specifically it will take place in the opening years of the 24th century – after the events of "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" and opening of "Star Trek: Generations" in 2293 but before those in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" which had a first season set in 2364".

They could do a lot worse than get George Takei involved.

Right period, ex captain of the Excelsior etc etc.

PS, oh and:

Khan
Voyage Home
Undiscovered country
Generations
Search for Spock
And – in joint place at the rear – Final Frontier and the Motion Picture: despite good performances in both, the scripts were awful and – not only the fare of poor episodes – but episodes we'd already seen in the show.

The rest of the Next Gen episodes were largely tripe with Nemesis being the very, very worst (with none of them, frankly, as good as the finale of the show "All good things") and the JJA films are irrelevant expensive 'fan films' with high production values but – again – retread plots and no consistent timeline.

Just in case you asked… wink

The international broadcast details for this series have been announced.

From what I can tell, Canada is the only country where the entire series will be aired on television. CTV (one of the major Canadian broadcast networks) will air the pilot episode, while Space (a cable network, and Canada's closest equivalent to SyFy) will air the remaining episodes. Plus there will be separate channels handling the French-language broadcast.

Outside of the US and Canada, the new series will be exclusive to Netflix.

The ship is called DISCOVERY.
They released a new teaser this weekend.

Galaxy Quest is a better Star trek movie than Nemesis will ever be.
