How many times have we covered this to death now? The recent changes have nothing to do with the needs of the military and not much to do with the desire of women to serve in the "pointy stick" end of it. A group of senior female officers were suing the DoD as the ban on combat posts was a block to any woman ever becoming Chief of Staff. The DoD knew they were going to lose so they changed the system. We, here in the UK are now preparing to follow suit. |

I had to think about making a post here with all the back & forth arguing, etc., … however … That delete was criminal IMHO I don't know what was said, I asked Bill and he ignored my PM. I can't imagine what could be so "upsetting"(?), heinous(?), etc. that was said on this thread about a SGT's death(?) to be deleted ? What I do know, any loss of Western or even today generally of Eastern military personnel saddens me … May they all RIP … |

No you don't got it not even CLOSE! Its about having experience in a field you have worked in versus someone that has never worked in that field yet thinks they know something about it. Great! I think we can safely shut down all discussions on TMP now. If you haven't actually worked as a hoplite in the 4th century B.C., you really can't speak on the subject. Similarly, if you haven't at least worked with Istari, I don't want your opinion on balrogs having wings. Oh, and as one of the minority of folks around here to make a full-time career of game development, you can all keep your opinions on games to yourselves. :) |

Here is a great article concerning women in Combat and why they should not be there or at least in Infantry units. And it's written by a female Captain in the Marine Corps. link

An interesting article Irish Marine, I think the basic point is 'there is no reason to incorporate women that will improve the infantry'. I'm slightly concerned that US marines are depicted as a bunch of barely controllable sexually charged jocks but as she is actually in the service it's hard to dispute this assertion. |

There is a interesting fact that does escape most if not all people including Female Marines who are Pro women in combat, and that is the only reason female Marines exist is because the position was created to FREE MEN to fight in WW1 not take their place. |

Goonfighter, I am not offended by your post and can see no reason why I would be. I am quite fascinated by the idea that women should not be in combat units because men cannot control themselves around them; that seems perverse to say the least. When our units had female medics attached, they were treated in the same way as everyone else; they were the butt of jokes, mickey taking, rude comments and endless banter and were expected to do the job they were there to perform, including carrying the load and engaging the enemy. They did that well, with the only concession being that one of them was issued with a shorter, lighter weapon, something that started out as a joke but became her trademark. None of them were sexually harassed (at least no more than the rest of the lads harassed each other!) and they were regarded as effective and important parts of the team. Perhaps the issue is more about attitudes, respect and values than anything else. |

If US Marines are unable to control themselves around women, maybe burkas in MARPAT are in order? Or chemical castration of the men? |

Quick, someone from TMP better head over to the sandbox and tell the Kurds and Israelis that women are not fit for combat! They've been doing it all wrong. Maybe we can send them some of our overweight male soldiers with high blood pressure and criminal convictions to explain the importance of maintaining high standards. :-D |

So basically she says yes, women can be effective in inafntry units and cites the Kurds and Israelis as examples but that in the US women should be excluded because we have enough men to fill those jobs (which is not true or else moral and physical waivers wouldn't exist) and because young American men have the morals of an ISIS fighter when it comes to their attitudes towards women. Looks like a certain female captain is looking for a promotion and knows where the Marines senior command stands on the issue. What's really ironic is that she accuses those women willing to fight for their country of being "selfish". IMO willing to be shot at and maimed or killed to defend your country is the opposite of being selfish. |

I propose that only people who have been a woman in combat should post on this topic. We wouldn't want people to speculate about something they don't have personal experience with, after all :) |

Looks like a certain female captain is looking for a promotion…. Exactly. The article cannot be taken seriously because it has an agenda. What better way to advance well-entrenched male chauvinism in the military than to have it validated by a woman? It's a shame that people still have the notion of women as delicate damsels-in-distress who must be rescued by knights in shining armor of the male gender. Romantic but terribly outdated. |

| jpattern2 | 10 Mar 2016 11:56 a.m. PST |
I think the "other matters" that DFW is referencing are either women's health issues or who can and can't use women's restrooms. To say any more is to risk DHing. |
