All,

During the initial attack on Eterville, the Brits fought their way into the village, but were stonewalled and forced to fall back after incredibly ferocious hand to hand combat. However, the ensuing air and artillery barrage and follow-on tank-infantry assault easily brushed aside the few remaining defenders. This left B Company, under Major Travers and with Lt Rownan as his 2iC, of the 5th Westchesterfords North Riding Rangers of the Highland Coldshire Guards (5th WNRRHCG), to push the attack through to the next objective, the Chateau de Eterville. The chateau is defended by the 2nd Company of the 457th PanzerGrenadier Abteilung Sauer und Krauthammer, commanded by Captain Keipers and his 2iC Lt Teigner.

In real life it's 10 July 1944, and it's A and B Companies of 4th Battalion, Dorset Regiment, 130th Brigade, 43rd Wessex Division vs 2nd Battalion, 22nd SS Panzergrenadier Regiment, 10th SS Panzer Division. In real life the Brits were able to take the Chateau, capturing the battalion surgeon and aid post for the German 2/22 PzGren Regiment.

The boy is in good spirits, having won one of two fights this weekend (so far). But we played a third, and the rubber match was another knock-down, drag out fight. I'll post it as soon as I can.

Nice report! Can you tell me more about the buildings? They look very nice.

mwindsorfw02 Mar 2016 6:55 p.m. PST

Where are your buildings from.

What rule set?

I now remember seeing the post on your blog about getting the buildings. Thanks.

Gentlemen,

Thanks, I appreciate it, and it's always nice to hear folks are reading and enjoying the batreps.

Thanks for the assist Kyote, and so here I'll confirm.

The rules are Ivan's ("Nordic Weasel" here on TMP) brilliant 5Core Company Command, which I'm still playing in the 5 Men in Normandy style, as opposed to the new 5 Men at Kursk style, though I can foresee moving over to the new stuff, at least with my skirmish games.

The buildings are Crescent Root 15mm, here's a better look at them:

More to come, one more batrep from last weekend, I'll look to post it tomorrow evening, then play some more games this weekend.

Jack

Another great AAR Jack.

I'd be interested in seeing your thoughts on Ivan's new system if you've had time to check it out yet. I really wanted to try it out and play a game but all my free "gaming time" is being taken with the kids who want my attention given towards "superhero games" etc…

I seriously doubt anyone has played the system as much as you so I think you're the unofficial authority in the field.

BTW the game looks great too; I know the look of a game was never the priority but I think your games look fantastic recently…and not a Marine dress uniform in sight

"Kursk" is fifty percent suggestions Jack made and fifty percent me doing the exact opposite of what he wanted ;-)

So at least half of it is good then ;)

Well, I'm more of a mascot than a spokesman, and the reason Ivan went with 50% Jack is because the bright, shining brilliance that is 100% Jack. So really we all owe him a debt of gratitude for a narrowly averted disaster!

Anyway, I haven't actually had the pleasure of playing 5MAK yet, the boy is familiar (perhaps too familiar) with the 5MIN mechanics. It's definitely on the docket, though, probably in a skirmish fight in Cronistria.

Having said that, I have had the pleasure of poring over 5MAK, line by line, for countless hours (removing countless commas), and so I can tell you I really like the changes, and I'm pretty comfortable with them (that is, they seem intuitive and close enough to 5MIN to seem familiar). But I will also state that I can't really see changing how I play my 5Core Company Command games (using 5MIN mechanics), it just works too well for me. So 5MAK will 'just' be skirmish and brigade level (whenever I finally get to it!).

Panda, I will say that, from my understanding of the stuff you look for, the 5MAK mechanics are probably more suited to you than the 5MIN mechanics. Particularly the activation system, which isn't as abstracted, boom or bust, as 5MIN (which is part of what I love about it!).

Jack

The world isn't really ready for 100% Jack I think.

I had to do something to keep the ladies from swooning and the national demand for smelling salts to explode.

Yes, the first sign of inability to deal with even 65% Jack is 'the vapors.'

Anyway, get back to work! And I need to figure something out; it's getting to be late Sunday morning and I haven't played any games yet…

V/R,
Jack
