Which sports celebrity would you most like to invite as your guest to a major wargaming convention or show? (Must be a living person.) |
Waco Joe | 01 Mar 2016 12:52 p.m. PST |
Von Miller. He seems to know how to have fun. |

I'm a big sports fan but wouldn't have any interest inviting one to be my guest at a wargames convention (happy to show them round if they were interested, of course) … I was more than happy to explain the tactics of the battle of Bosworth to England cricket star Andrew Flintoff, of course
( Phil and Freddie Flintoff at the 2014 Bosworth Festival) He didn't take up my offer of a full game, however … Phil |
Winston Smith | 01 Mar 2016 1:21 p.m. PST |
I would hesitate to invite Gronk, because I wouldn't want him to spike my figures. Other than that, he would be fun. |
Choctaw | 01 Mar 2016 1:50 p.m. PST |
But Gronk would drink all the beer. Smokey would be fun but he would drink all the beer too. |
nazrat | 01 Mar 2016 1:59 p.m. PST |
I would discourage any group I was a member of from bringing ANY sports celebrity to a gaming con. They would have nothing to add and would be a complete waste of the organization's time and money. |
Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut | 01 Mar 2016 2:05 p.m. PST |
I am so far removed from sports that I don't even know any spirts celebrities. Ask me which physicists, chemists, biologists, anthropologists, etc. or even science reporters and I will give you a list of nanes. They are *my* superstars. |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 01 Mar 2016 2:17 p.m. PST |
I'm with these guys. None. |
Frederick | 01 Mar 2016 2:39 p.m. PST |
Wayne Gretzky He's a good kid from Brampton |
Winston Smith | 01 Mar 2016 2:58 p.m. PST |
I bet Curt Schilling plays a good Squad Leader. |
Marc33594 | 01 Mar 2016 3:57 p.m. PST |
Hmmmm, might be interesting to invite Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Intelligent and thought provoking his book "Brother's in Arms, the Epic Story of the 761st Tank Battalion: WW II's Forgotten Heroes" on the all black armored unit certainly puts him well within the historical side of the hobby. |

Ragbones | 01 Mar 2016 4:48 p.m. PST |
Kate Upton. She's been featured many times in Sports Illustrated and is dating Detroit Tiger pitcher Justin Verlander so that makes her a sports celebrity in my book. That and she's great to watch jogging in the beach. She's sure to be an expert on hills and gently curving terrain. |
jtkimmel | 01 Mar 2016 5:28 p.m. PST |
Winston, yes I saw Schilling a couple times at the EPGS meetings, playing ASL, back when he was a Phillie. Though I never had the chance to play him myself. |
nevals | 01 Mar 2016 5:40 p.m. PST |
Marc, I had no idea about the book. Thanx for the info. |
Bowman | 01 Mar 2016 6:11 p.m. PST |
Wayne GretzkyHe's a good kid from Brampton I think you mean Brantford. I'd pick any female Beach Volleyball player. Would that work? Maybe a few members of the Russian Women's weightlifting team to help schlep my stuff from the car. |
Pictors Studio | 01 Mar 2016 6:57 p.m. PST |
After looking it up I'd go with Victoria Pendleton too. But I'm also willing to invite Kate Upton as I think Ragbones definition is completely legitimate. |

"I would discourage any group I was a member of from bringing ANY sports celebrity to a gaming con. They would have nothing to add and would be a complete waste of the organization's time and money." Nothing beats being open-minded and non-judgemental. Some of the people I game with are/were professional athlethes . A number of NFL teams have gaming groups within them as do MLB (I do not know 1st hand about the NBA and NHL) |

Victoria Pendleton sounds good to me too!! |

Stosstruppen | 02 Mar 2016 1:24 p.m. PST |
Lindsay Vonn, she looks to be available for sedentary activities for the foreseeable future…. |
Old Contemptibles | 02 Mar 2016 1:24 p.m. PST |
None. I don't want to have to explain what the heck were doing. |
Lee Brilleaux | 02 Mar 2016 5:30 p.m. PST |
I'll ask Lionel Messi next time he's over at my house. |
grtbrt | 02 Mar 2016 5:56 p.m. PST |
Also ask him why he chose a third rate winery to produce his wine . |
Cmde Perry | 02 Mar 2016 7:52 p.m. PST |
The Fridge! Hey, we people with the name Perry have to stick together – there aren't that many of us. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 02 Mar 2016 9:43 p.m. PST |
No coaches? No cheerleaders? No announcers or commentators? |
Lord Elpass | 03 Mar 2016 3:09 a.m. PST |
Fanny Chmelar – always nice to put a face to a name |
grtbrt | 03 Mar 2016 1:54 p.m. PST |
I barely can stand the announcers during a game , so meeting them is not on my list . Coaches? there's enough people standing around telling you how you should play the game at conventions without bringing in extras. |
tsofian | 03 Mar 2016 5:38 p.m. PST |
Danica Patrick, but no way am I playing a racing game against her |
Waco Joe | 04 Mar 2016 8:48 a.m. PST |
Danica Patrick, but no way am I playing a racing game against her Why not? you are guaranteed to win! |
Tumbleweed | 04 Mar 2016 10:56 a.m. PST |
I agree with Nazrat on this one. A waste of time and money. |
Howler | 04 Mar 2016 10:18 p.m. PST |
Chuck norris for gladiator combat, samurai battles, superhero games, special ops games, etc. |
