Hi All,

I watched John Carter of Mars again yesterday and rather liked the idea of a 25mm HOTT army project. Now having looked around a bit I can't find a source for figures in either 25mm or 28mm. I liked the look of the Paroom Station figures but it seems they are in hiatus at the moment. Can anyone suggest anything else around that could feed my Barsoom cravings.

Black Hat does some 15m figs, while Rafm has a Space 1889 range in 25mm. Someone makes a few 28s, but for the life of me I can't recall who it is.

Yes, that's them.

Any one remember the company that produced John Carter of Mars 25mm figs back in the 70's? I used to have some Green Martians, but sold them off ages ago.

Bronze Age Miniatures and Tin Man miniatures both make John Carter of Mars inspired figures. Both are excellent. Heritage had a range of John Carter miniatures in the 1980's but these were not very good and you will probably only find them on EBAY

Peter Pig has some red and green aliens in 15 mm. peterpig.co.uk/fantasy.html

Green Beanie is likely thinking about the old 25mm Heritage Figures. A guy on ebay is reproducing these and has auctions out there right now. His Ebay id is:
collectorfigs

Search on 25mm John Carter and it will bring up 3 auctions and you can go from there

I have a bunch of the Bronze Age figures, they are very nice.

In 2012 I wrote a article on JC and miniatures for the 'OSFMapa' publication but it went belly up and was never published…….

Modiphius have a John Carter RPG in the works which will have a supporting miniatures range if their website speaks true .

axabrax27 Feb 2016 9:23 a.m. PST

Yes, I'd hold off until the Modiphius Kickstarter happens. There will be a tabletop game in addition to the RPG. Likely the figs will be 32-35mm however.

I'm putting together a Barsoomish HOTT army from all sorts of old Minifigs -mainly Zulus.

Parrrskool, did you leave out the quotation marks,or are you and green beanie "eerie twins?"
They were Heritage over here,as The King said, maybe Hinchliffe over there. I have a couple I bought back then as samples,I'll try to dig them out and have a look.
I seem to recall a lawsuit threat. The Burroughs estate is as touchy as Disney or Toho.

Heritage also made a crappy Star Trek line.

Kropotkin30327 Feb 2016 1:51 p.m. PST

Thanks guys,

Well the Bronze Age Miniatures are really nice but more heroic in scale and ,as far as I can see the Tin Man stuff is a kick starter.

I wonder how tall the Peter Pig Tharks/Green Martians are. They do look rather nice.

If they were around 35mm then I could live with that as I am a 25mm gamer.

Does anyone know?

Cyrus the Great27 Feb 2016 2:04 p.m. PST

@The Dozing Dragon,
THAT is quite the comprehensive article.

The Dozing Dragon27 Feb 2016 5:15 p.m. PST

Thanks @Cyrus the Great. It was a shame the fanzine died as it was starting to build a following.

@Kropotkin the Martians are quite large but i think around the 20-25mm size if memory serves me right. All stored away post divorce – fire an email to Mark at Peter Pig and he'll check.

Some discussion about the Modiphius John Carter line can be found here:

According to that, they have plans for the whole set: an RPG, a minis game and a board game. The full miniatures game will be the very last one to come, at a guess. Looks like the minis might be "true 28mm" (they seem to have retreated from the orginal "heroic 32mm") but that's of course subject to change. And anyway they are going to be bigger than 25mm.

As to Tin Man minis, his site (it was a one man operation AFAIK) has vanished, his company Facebook page is dead and according to another thread at Lead Adventure he closed doors because he got a deal to sculpt for another company (I haven't tried to verify). I suppose it's off to retailers and eBay if you want their stuff. They are way larger than 25mm, more @ 32mm or more if the memory serves.

If I had the money, My top choice would be to do a 15mm John Carter line of models. Maybe the Copplestone fantasy Romans in 15mm, if they ever appear, will be a good basis for a proxy.

mashrewba03 Mar 2016 2:40 a.m. PST

Ha -I'm doing exactly that with this range!!!

commanderroj03 Mar 2016 7:57 a.m. PST

I would like to see them. I hope they work out well.

mashrewba03 Mar 2016 12:35 p.m. PST

Fantasy Romans -what are they going to look like???

commanderroj06 Mar 2016 10:52 a.m. PST

Who can say? Romans with a Copplestone twist I a am guessing having wondered the same thing.

mashrewba06 Mar 2016 2:42 p.m. PST

I guessing a more ornate Barsoomian style helmet.
Maybe something like these 6mm chaps
This blokes stuff has kicked off a HOTT Barsoom project with me in 15mm.

Just settling back in and let me guess:
Bronze Age doesn't offer yheir Barsoom figures any more because Modiphius has the license, now?

Sargonarhes25 Feb 2023 1:13 p.m. PST

Modiphius seems to be going big into the John Carter rpg, I guess it's because the license for Conan is expiring.

But how does one license from a book which are now in the public domain?
