We played this game from the Road to Rabaul book at our regular Tuesday evening CY6 get together.
Chris had the Japanese and I the RAAF 6 P40Es vs 4 A6M2s and a Val Chris had 2 +2 pilots and 3 +1s while I had 3 + 1s and 3 Green pilots.
It did not go well for the Diggers and they lost 4 planes and had one damaged. 2 Zekes went down.
In one turn I managed to lose a head-on pass shot dramatically, miss an almost sure hit from the rear putting a friendly fire airframe damage hit on another P40 that was putting enough damage on the Val that Chris had to roll boxcars to save-which he did.
Frustrating game but still fun.

Cool report! That is a good campaign book, though its lack of P-39s and beaufighters is frustrating.

Nice flightstands, too.

Glad you are enjoying the book, it was a lot of fun doing the research and play testing the scenarios.

Didn't put any Beaufighters in as they never engaged in air to air combat, fast hit and run attacks. Only 1 air kill to a Beaufighter in that area of operations, and that one was taking off during attack, didn't even have wheels up.

Good history, but not much to make a fun game out of.

P-39, well, that was a tough call. Buzz Wagner was difficult to leave out, not enough space and something had to get cut.

If you are looking for a fantastic reference book on the air war in New Guinea that has loads of game ideas for P39/400s, B26s, B25s, B17Es,and Kittyhawks as Allied aircraft, then this is the book for you:

I highly recommend this book. I'm a huge B-26 fan and the exploits of the 22nd Bomb Group rarely get more than a brief nod in most B-26 histories. Another excellent book is "Revenge of the Red Raiders", covering the entire wartime history of the 22nd, which flew the original version of the B-26, B-25C/Ds and finished the war in B-24Js.
