The Gazelle-class Close Escort in RPG-scale is up as part of the stretch goals for the Squadron Strike: Traveller Kickstarter. link This is part of Ken Burnside's attempt to clean up the mess from someone else's KS.

Gazelle Close Escort and Gig

Heavy lines are a 1" grid, fine lines are 1/8".

??

So, how big would those be in meters?

Mako1126 Feb 2016 12:58 a.m. PST

That looks really cool!

Any idea what the Gazelle and shuttle will sell for?

The Gazelle is 4.78cm long, the launch is 2.43cm long.

I can see uses for them for Full Thrust ships.

I can't recall exactly, but think the Gazelle is on the order of about 50m long (appears to be just under that, in one scale size drawing I saw – so, say 48m).

It's virtually identical in length to the Beowulf Free Trader.

Of course, there are different opinions/data as to the length of the Beowulf as well, but the scale measurement I took it off of is one showing 20 different Traveller vessels, with a metric scale below.

Ad Astra News27 Feb 2016 12:04 p.m. PST

The RPG-scale miniatures are about 1:900 scale, so the Gazelle is roughly 43 m long.

GypsyComet28 Feb 2016 3:43 p.m. PST

The deckplan grid in Traders & Gunboats (GDW) puts the Gazelle at 43-45m.

Note that the Gig should be only 1/19th the volume of the Gazelle.

Lion in the Stars28 Feb 2016 7:54 p.m. PST

OK, cool… (the Gig has a lot of nonusable hull volume due to the aerodynamic shaping)

GypsyComet08 Mar 2016 11:37 p.m. PST

Non-usable volume has nothing to do with it. If the Gig only occupies 20 tons of the Gazelle's 400 and is mounted externally, it is not going to "really" be 50 tons with 30 tons of waste.

emckinney09 Mar 2016 10:28 a.m. PST

Don't understand what you're driving at. The physical volume of the gig model here is 20 tons, relative to the Gazelle.

Ad Astra News12 Mar 2016 11:16 p.m. PST

The gig is almost exactly 1/19th the volume of the CE, given a small percentage for artistic license. It doesn't look like it, but remember that doubling the length of a ships increases the volume 8 times. The gig also has very different proportions (a wedge compared to something near a cylinder). Because the gig is so flattened, it's longer and broader that you would expect from its volume.

Can't do the KS, but am interested in a couple, if/when they're available for direct sale.

Would like to see some others as well produced too, e.g. System Defense Boat, Far Trader, Fat Trader, etc., etc..
