How much should a seller expect to get for a bag of battered old figures with missing weapons and heads ? I have been told, at a collectors fair, that the lead figure I was looking at was worth £5.00 GBP because it was rare. it was a Ral Partha wolf – the base was broken off, and the figures was not lovely shiny lead colour more a dark grey shading to black – not good since this was bare metal ! So, what should a seller expect for a bag of miscellaneous battered and broken figures ? A) to be laughed out of court. B) 300% of original purchase value. C) To get to take them home again at the end of the day. D) The luck to meet a real mug. E) Other F) Zardoz |

Current price for lead is about 77 cents US per pound… Should have sold in 2008. link |

Actually, sometimes the dark color does indicate lead rot. |

They make decent casualty figures. |

C, although Mute Bystander has a good idea. A buddy of mine (also a TMP member) has lost some of his Ral Partha 25mm painted fantasy figures to lead rot. And I've seen those same dark areas on unpainted Ral Partha figures myself. |

That was what I was thinking!!! |

As a thought…and because I am reviewing what spares and brokens I have laying about…I think the "seller" should just give them away if he/she does not wish to cart them away. The value of toys that have sat around for a few decades is in their use unless they've been painted. |

What should he expect, C. What should he hope for, E. Me to be scrounging for bits and bobs for various conversion projects, leading to a nice round of haggling and discussion, followed by a reasonable price and an offer to partake in a couple of beers. I do a lot of weapon removals and conversions and do a lot of putting animal heads on stuff for scifi/fantasy. |

Re lead rot--were those Parthas lead,or that misbegotten "Ralladium"? |

Actually, sometimes the dark color does indicate lead rot. If the figure is shiny and there is a grey discoloration in a spot that is most likely going to indicate lead rot. If the figure is overall a grey or black it is usually an indication that the temperature of the metal was too hot. You can usually tell the difference. |

Well, there was a lot on ebay – boxed set of Asgard ancients – a few months ago. Seller noted they were OOP and wanted about 40 cents apiece. I sent a message that noted that based on his photos that some of the minis were discolored and might have lead rot, could he take some close ups or tell if the surface was powdery. I also pointed out that the minis in the lot could still be picked up from Viking Forge for 40 cents apiece. Lot didn't sell and I never heard back. Will say I might have gambled and gone 10 to perhaps 20 cents on them if I hadn't already had enough for an army. |

I have found that Ebay sellers never want to find out that their RARE OOP FIGURES are still in production… |
