Dis anyone sucessfull do it?

I am planning having the Zvevda and other big ones and the wonderful Valdemar lines. So actual 25 mm real with bases.
The only thing that makes me hesitate: terrain in 28 mm ihas everything and is mostly top notch.

Dark ages, + 12-13 th century .

personally i use 28mm terrain with 1:72 minis and vehicles..simply because i cannot have duplicate terrain items for both scale…and 28mm buildings works well also with 1:72 while 1:72 buildings would not work with 28mm of which i also have quite a few armies

Most buildings are huge compared to similar scale figures and way out of kilter with the ground scale, so I always sub-scale buildings.

We use 28mm buildings with our 54mm figures! They will be way too big for 25mm.

For 1/72nd scale I'd use 15mm buildings.

IMHO, YMMV etc etc.

It is mostly for sk lion rampant and the like. So actually they better be in scale or slightly bigger.
I do use as much as possible smaller or so for battles as in napy or syw games. In 15mm with small 15 or big "10".

Here I'd want the guys inside. And there are so many beautiful buildings in 28 compared to the short list of 1/72.

Not easy to figure out if doors and windows would look out of place; if chaps on bases would be hard put to look out/ down on say hudson allen castle ( which might have been done for 25 rather than 28?). Etc.

Agreed, 28mm is way too big for 20mm (1/72). I strongly suggest you look at 15mm buildings or even smaller.

If you go with PDF buildings/castles, you can scale them on your printer, to whatever size works best. Fat Dragon Games makes one of the best, boxy types of castles, which I own (actually, I have an older version of the Borderland Keep). Their Winterland Keep is quite the model, at a decent price; it is more complex, and more effort, to build compared to the Deluxe Borderland Keep.

To print in proper scale, either experiment with reducing the printer's percentage setting, or calculate the reduction needed to go down from 28mm scale (100%), to 20mm scale (71%). If the 71% is too small, then up it by 5-10% increments, and see what you like. Cheers!

Not necessarily too big, especially castles, since those were huge, so even in 28mm they tend to be much smaller than in real life.

A lot of buildings have over-sized windows and doors, especially if they are the more up-scale, dwellings for the rich, so I think it would work fine, especially given rule #1, stated in the first paragraph.

Yes model castles tend to be smaller than real ife in terms of their layout, but doors and windows will be far too large.

Really? I have visited many castles and have not seen any appreciable difference in size. Indeed many doors seem quite small to us modern people.

Aie

But we ( pr you) are notoriously bigger than in the middle ages.

Many of the minis I will use are actual real 25 + base.
My problem is having them inside whenver possible those nice Mdf buildings for ex.
Ok if there were just as many in 20 mm I'd go for it.

So far only one has done this, several of you tell me not too.
Will have to get a die roll counting the posts; decision making as the ancient greeks. ?
Spend 2 days counting, finding organizing 3 orders for 1/72. Nothing sent yet. If I'd come close to the basics in 28 it would cost nearly twice as much.

I use railway buildings mostly – TT, OO, HO & even N guage

And all smaller (some much smaller) than 28mm.

So as one should never underestimate what others done before… i changed my plan.

1 what can be done for impetus for ex. Not involving much scenery can be plastic 1/72, if independant from other subjects.

2. Pure skirmish , medieval etc. back to 28mm as I noticed many of the funny boxes ( civilians ) are unavailable. After all Valdemar is nearly as expensive as 28 mm and from what I read brittle so risky for skirmish.
