I've tried and continue to strike out putting LBM decals on domed round shields for my Macedonians. Any who can do it well interested in a commission? |

If you cut the transfer from edge to center (boss area) they will follow the curve and fit quite well. There will be a millimeter or so of overlap so make the cut in an appropriate area. |

Duke This is a common issue and I still have the odd wrinkle. My technique is – Lightly score the back of the transfers on the diagonals – usually make say 4 score lines. Then use either a moistened finger or a moist paper towel to press down and smooth over the edges. Simon Miller, aka BigRedBat, suggested using blutack in much the same way to mould the transfer onto the dome. See his Blog for some expert guidance. Have not tried but others swear by decal softening agents. Good luck |

link This works on Foundry and Polemarch pelte. If it is a heavily-domed pelte, though, I'd try the decal softener route as Garry suggests. |

I've used decal fluids – microsol and microset – with a great deal oaf success on various irregular shapes though I haven't used LBM decals specifically. Place decals over a gloss finish for best results (and matt them afterwards). John T |

I second MicroSol & MicroSet products. I've used them for decades to help transfers conform to all sorts of surfaces, from curves to rivets to pane lines. After applying the solution, I let it set for a second or two, then use a soft tissue to help press the transfer onto the surface. As above, it DOES seem to work best on a smooth, glossy surface. However, I've used it on matte finishes and not had any issues with it'sconforming. Seconding John's comments,I haven't tried it on LBMS transfers, but I can't imagine it not working with them. Having said that,I've used hundreds of LBMS transfers without any issues, and without resorting to Microset/Sol, but I'll give it a try on a couple shields to see how it pans out. |

Since LBM is not really a traditional decal, you think it works still? |

I did 300+ Old Glory Hoplite shields with the old style LBM transfers. The new ones are supposed to be easier. My system. Paint shield white. Clear coat glossy. Cut out transfer in the usual circle leaving a pointed notch to grab onto. Place transfer on shield. Peel away backing using the pointed notch first. Smooth down the transfer and either cut off the notch with an X-acto knife or fold it under to the back of the shield. Then I sprayed with dullcoat. |

Thanks for the advice. I've got someone who might be able to do them now. Plan B see if my daughter can do to work off paying for the new tires she needed!!! |
