I am painting my 28mm SYW army and am up to hussars now. The Prussians did not have flags but the figures have what looks like a standard bearer. Is it a guidion, lance, simple rallying banner, nonsense? I would hate to just get ride of it. What should I make it into?

I know this is a problem. In the end I just gave mine flags.

It is true that Prussian SYW hussars did not carry colours but for those figs with a flag staff I did like de Ligne and gave them a flag

I put mine on Generals command base vignettes presenting captured enemy flags.

:-)

Interesting. Thanks for the input. I do have enough figures without the staffs. I may convert them to aide de camps if hat makes sense.

Yes, have them wave an urgent dispatch!

Only the 5th von Ruesch and 7th von Malachowski carried colours during the 7YW. Not Prussian colours but a number of French ones they had captured. See the Kronoskak article:

They had flags until around 1740 or thereabouts (swallow-tailed guidons with 'vandycked' edging, like their shabraques), so they may well have carried them during Fred the Big's earlier campaigns during the War of Austrian Succession.

I had the same problem – you buy a bag of 30x Old Glory 15s and you're stuck with two standard-bearers, so you either have to include them, convert them or make do with smaller units.
