Jolly good!

Better than that…..Is this a first?

I got my figs purely to do RHA.

Several things I will learn from this eg highlighting of the boots and sabre guard (did they wear gloves? French did but I have no idea). The buckle on the horse face harness…that I like too.

The horse blanket nicely illustrates another question posted today, about heavy cavalry blankets (Scots Greys). Those blue stripes we have all used, they are folds in a plain grey blanket.

I love your idea of "simple to paint"…lace chest, laced collar (brilliant) and cuffs…..that is not "easy". Marie Louises in overcoats…that is easy…(unless you try to highlight grey in several shades, or light Brown etc etc……)

I think the test was very successful.

Excellent painting. Having just painted the 11th Light Dragoons using the same figures I wonder if I might make a comment or two.

I think that the breeches should be a bit whiter in colour as buff was restricted to buff faced regiments. Also the rolled cloak forward of the saddle should be the blue used for light cavalry. (The heavies had red.) Also his 1796 pattern sword should have steel (white metal) hilt.

Hope that helps.

Great brush work!

Very nice! Is the yellow on the base an undercoat, or just some paint you decided to put on the base for the photos?

apart from the eyes – very very nice, please consider not to paint them or tone down the white a bit more

The eyes…the horse more than the rider. The horse, you will never see white, unless he is facing canister or a dying on a square of bayonets.

The rider. You have made a really good job of his eyes…..but I usually never try. I just shade with a wash.

When I have done, they look like zombies or terrified. My 28 mm Ponsonby looked "right" with whites of eyes showing, but consider his plight. (I meant Bill not Fred of course)

I really look forward to seeing your unit. Amazed no-one has beaten you to it yet!

I got distracted with Mamelukes or else I would have….well done.

Trust von W, he is good at this…….seriously.

Thanks guys for all the feedback it is all welcome

Lonkka1Actual, thank you kindly

deadhead, thank you also, I say easy to paint because normally I struggle with the lace and such. Napoleonic figures are truly my nemysis! they have being for years. I agree with your statement about highlighting grey, I still haven't found a method I'm happy with.

Thanks Michael, he does look the part I'm happy to say.

Artilleryman, thank you also. I did start off with lighter colour breeches but they didn't look right. I may have to try a shade in between what I have now and the original colour. Now you've mentioned it about the cloak being blue the Penny's dropped, I think I'm that used to painting grey I did it out of habit but blue it will be. The sword hilt I will also put right, I must admit its little bits I normally get wrong. So thanks again for the info I will put it to good use, and yes it does help.

Thanks oldbob, hopefully the next 11 will turn as well.

My good friend Robby, I used white undercoat. I normally paint the bases so they blend in better when they are based proper. Although I have used various colours for undercoating depending on the finished colour of what I'm painbting. I'm not strictly a black or white undercoat man. I have used dark umber to base coat my WW2 Brits for instance. I don't always paint within the lines as it were!

von Winterfeldt, do you mean the eyes on the horse or on the rider! Its just a habit I have up with the horses I'm afraid. I try to make the horses appear to be charging wildly. I guess it doesnt quite work.

So guys as always thank you for all the comments, they are appreciated especially if it means I can correct mistakes before I get them all painted.

So thanks again cheers for now
Russ

deadhead, the eyes on the rider I got right first time which is very unlike me! Its not unknown for me to have 3 or 4 attempts with some figures. Hopefully I will get some more time on them this weekend! Which should see a couple more completed. Well that's the plan, that's unless Mrs bracken has other ideas!

Russ – the troopers eyes are ok. Maybe a bit big. I really struggle with eyes like Deadhead, so I don't usually paint them.
I never paint white on horses eyes.
Otherwise very well done!

The famous Vallejo mountains in the background…

Nice job and the horseshoes look real.

I wouldn<#t paint the eyes of the horse – nor the trooper, leave them dark – here an example how I did mine, please give it a try

Napoleonics do seem to bring a lively debate and plenty of feedback, just the reason why I love TMP.

wrgmr1 thanks for the comments, I have tried not to paint eyes on figures but its something I think finishes the figure off! Well in my eyes anyway. No pun intended!

d88mm1940, yes the famous or infamous Vallejo mountains. They sit next to the citadel gorge and the miniatures paints mole hill! I am a paint horder but I also have a pretty basic lighting set up and the paintpot backdrop helps to disguise the shadows slightly.

pmwalt, your kind words are very much appreciated thank you.

377CSG, thank you also. I do like the perry horses they look good and paint up nicely, and the horse shoes are a nice detail.

von Winterfeldt, you are a true artist. Your work is way above my level of talent and I do appreciate your advice. I have painted horses so many times and never really looked at the real thing, so the horses eyes I will re visit. The figures eyes I will continue to paint, I have tried not painting eyes before but never being happy with the end result. Although if I could paint half as good as you I don't think I would have to worry about the eyes! Your work is in a completely different class to mine, a standard which I accepted a long time ago I would not be able to reach. I posted some time ago about things I will never be! A first rate painter is one of those things, I have found a standard I can live with. Thank you once again for your advice, I really am grateful I'm just not sure it would work for me.

So thanks everyone for the comments and feedback, your words are all welcome, so thanks again
Cheers for now Russ
