Besides the Ospreys on Queen Victoria's enemies and Sikh armies, does anyone know of any good references on the dress, weapons, etc. of Indian armies and warriors of the period?

If the list of sub-continent enemies you want info on inclues the Afghan regular army, there is a page on my blog with an article and illustrations that may be of interest:

Mad Guru – Thanks, I'm more specifically looking for the dress, weapons, etc. info for sub-continent enemies of the era.

Don't know the exact reference, but there's a painting in the Chester Beaty library collection of Begum Sumroo's army on the march. I think the date is around 1805. It shows, amongst other things, infantry units in dark blue Mughal coats, white trousers and red turbans. Artillerymen are similar, but with reddish pink coats.

Other than that, there are a lot of period watercolours if you search the web, which show Indian troops. A lot of the native troops seem to have worn white most of the time.
