For the last few months I've been collecting bottle caps from various cleaning products and this weekend I decided it was time to start using them to build a martian kraal/vilage for my 6mm VSF mars project. I got the idea for these from looking at sub saharan african architecture. Here's a picture of them being built
And the finished product, three dwellings, three incubators and a grain silo
I still have to put hinges and doorknobs/pull rings on the gates. I made these first few as a test run and plan to build about 5 more and then maybe some kind of enclosure/surrounding wall to put them all in. That's it for now as I leave you with one more picture of my entire VSF mars project so far…
Ps: I am a verry erratic builder/painter so don't expect any logical progress ;-) Cheers, Stroezie. |

I LIKE IT !!!!!!!!!! |

Illogically fun whenever I see progress, so no warning necessary. ;->= I remember years ago thinking some of the 'more elegant' detergent pop-up caps would make great Eldar cities for Space Marine. When Battlefield-in-a-Box came up with their much larger scale elf buildings, I thought 'yeah, almost like that…' ;->= Doug |

Cool, there's an idea or two I might borrow – imitation being the sincerest form of flattery and all that! The white on the buildings looks very characterful, how was the effect achieved? |

Thanks for all the positive comments guys, really helps to keep me motivated. @ ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa I'm all for a little flattery so feel free to borrow away ;-)) The white was a simple affair of desert sand basecoat, armypainter darktone wash and sand drybrush. I think the thing that makes the white characterful, as you so eloquently put it,is the coat of GW liquid greenstuff I used to cover the plastic. It gives it a nice adobe style texture. Its a trick I picked up from Michael from Angel Barracs. |

I finished 2 more buildings and started work on a tower module with a little mooring platform for airships Here's a few pics of the new houses and village so far
I'll post a picture of the tower once it's done. |

These are great. Thank you for sharing your crafting projects! |

Will definitely make use of the liquid green stuff trick – assuming I can now find some! Thank you GW. |

So after getting side tracked by a 6mm Space Hulk build and the start of a 6mm greek fantasy project I finally got round to finishing the next 5 buildings for my village, I also made some more grain silos and a well.
Next I'd like to build some market stalls and add some scatter terrain. |

Nice! I'm going to be back on my 6mm VSF project after I return from the UK this summer. I'll be at the Joy of Six, picking up figures. What are you using for your Martians? I was going to use Mahdists for mine, as I am going for the Burroughs Barsoomian Red Martians look. As for the lizardmen of Venus, I think Microworld makes some nice looking ones. Which rules are you using? |
stroezie | 15 May 2016 2:00 p.m. PST |
@J Womack 94 Be sure to post some pictures when you start your 6mm vsf. Baccus mahdists are my choice for red martians to. I've also been slowly sculpting my own cephalods and plan to do my own green martians too unless I can find a 6mm scource for them. For rules I'll be using Martian Empires available from Black Hat miniatures. |

Very nice stroezie, I'm following your progress with much interest! Are you modifying Martian Empires at all to take in to account the reduced scale? |
stroezie | 16 May 2016 10:38 a.m. PST |
I'll pretty much be using the rules as they are. The only changes will be inch = centimeters and base sizes are all halved. That way I can play on a 2x3 foot board which will be easier for solo play. |
VALIS13 | 17 May 2016 4:18 a.m. PST |
I like the stippled floor effect, how did you do that? Or did the board come that way and you drybrushed it? |
stroezie | 17 May 2016 1:25 p.m. PST |
The board is actually an extra shelf from my ikea cabinet, makes for easy storage. It was first painted with some cheap dollar store structure paint and then covered in three more layers of magnetic paint and only then came the pretty colors :-)) |

A nice handy shelf-sized board! Great idea! I also like the floaty-steamboat in a couple of the shots. |
