I was intending to purchase some 6mm Mahdists from Baccus. I see that a number of the models are carrying a round shield. However, my understanding that the Ansar did not usually carry shields and those that did had eliptical, rather than the round shields carried by the Hadendowah (Fuzzy Wuzzies). Am I correct in this? The Ansar did not carry shields. The exceptions were,as you noted, the Hadendowah tribes and the Riverine Arabs who carry the elliptical shields. |

You are correct. I'm fairly sure that I've read that at Abu Kru and Abu Klea there weren't any shields reported – this was fought against the Riverine Arabs. Check this though. I'm not familiar with the Baccus range but I suspect those Ansar with round shields could be used as 1885 Beja when they begin to adopt the dress of the Ansar. |
