I live near a National Guard training center and can frequently hear and often see training exercises taking place. A Maryland A-10 unit is in town to train on the bombing/gunnery range and there is a local media article about them. It includes a bunch of pics so I thought I'd share.

Great pictures. I think we all love the A-10.Long may they fly. Nice winter camo. I guess we all knew they fly at low altitude, but some of those photos are pretty damn low. Thanks for sharing.

Those are great photos. So I guess the push to scuttle the A-10 has been put on hold. What a fantastic aircraft. No it is not sexy say like a F-115E or F-35 but it kicks major butt.

There is a saying, "If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid."

Switch it about a little – "If it ain't sexy and it works, then it's sexy."

They are like good BBQ, "low and slow"

Nice pics, thanks for sharing them

Ashokmarine10 Feb 2016 5:14 p.m. PST

One of my favorite airplanes..

One of the coolest planes ever.

Growing up in the Philadelphia area they were stationed at Willow Grove airbase. It was always a treat in the morning during a swim meet that we would need to take a break as they flew directly over the pool. Awesome birds!

Camo scheme is not winter but standard USAF Low Vis Gray. Pretty effective in these pics though. If you look closely at the bottom of the aircraft, you can make out the false canopy painted in dark gray.

Great pics!

Thanks for sharing.

Had the pleasure of watching one of these do fake attacks at the local airport during an airshow one year. They are incredibly maneuverable, even when down on the deck, and flying slow.

Always loved the Warthog design. It is a killer.

Zone, one year at the Bulge reenactment, I could hear them doing 30mm Vulcan target practice at night while I was on sentry duty.
Sounded like dragon mating-calls.

Second that on Capn! Sounds like King Kong's chainsaw!

I think it's the greatest plane the US has ever built.

I used to live under one of the low level transit routes in the UK in the 80s. We had pretty much every type of RAF and USAF aircraft flying through, from Tornado to C-130 Hercules. The A-10 was always identifiable from the distinctive whistle of the engines before you saw it. Also driving around the east of Birmingham on the M42 before it was joined to the M1 and M6, the road had little traffic and the A-10s would divert to use what traffic was there as "targets", both fun and unnerving from the target's point of view!

+1 Waco Joe: That is one of the best descriptions I've ever heard of the A-10.

I like A-10s: Ugly but well hung grin

It is neat when they run night drills. You can hear them but not always seen them. Then all of a sudden they start dispensing anti-AA flares. It is like a mini fireworks show.

Used to watch them at Myrtle Beach AFB in South Carolina, a couple of decades ago. Very cool.

Watching one at the NTC I swear it stopped in mid air while firing.

Bellbottom11 Feb 2016 6:19 p.m. PST

I watched them destroy a couple of 'convoy' targets one morning at Otterburn training area, Northumberland. Once heard, never forgotten.
