Any news on the availability to non-US purchasers?

dbf167608 Feb 2016 6:21 a.m. PST

Why don't you contact him directly at

link

Chokidar08 Feb 2016 6:44 a.m. PST

Why can he not answer here? This has been an ongoing saga!

Going directly to the source is usually one's best chance of getting an answer. Leaving a message on an Internet forum…? Less so.

Maybe some of us have the link blocked by our firewall….

Received a charming update from the producer – have decided I am terminally grumpy – congratulations to all for the initiative to produce this wonderful work (and put up with miserable old sods like me) – and I cannot wait to get my grubby paws on a copy!

clibinarium09 Feb 2016 6:26 a.m. PST

I'm anxious to get a copy of this too. Is the update something you can share with us?

Chokidar09 Feb 2016 6:36 a.m. PST

After significant trials and tribulations it would seem that the books have been delivered to North America and are now in the process of filtering their way through to where Amazon demands they be before allowing the article to go live on the Amazon US site. It would seem, because of the demands of distributors etc. that discussions with either sellers or Amazon in Europe have not so far given any positive results so it will have to be Amazon US (unless of course you could use your good graces with Barry et al to see if there was any interest from LoA in stepping in to carry copies in Europe – I am sure the producers in the US (a labour of love and not a commercial venture) would be happy to at least explore that option. That is just me surmising by the way.)

Kind regards

C

That may not be a bad idea; I'll mention it to him.

jocknroll09 Feb 2016 8:45 a.m. PST

I am not averse to this in principle. I was approached by the guys during the creation process but cannot to my embarrassment remember whether I made any contribution or not! (the shame of it).
Contingent on logistics and costs I would have a look at stocking it.

jocknroll09 Feb 2016 8:46 a.m. PST

…Also can't find the comms for that exchange so if anyone can put them in touch…

I don't do Facebook as a matter of principle

Chokidar09 Feb 2016 8:50 a.m. PST

I shall mention it by e-mail in case our friend has not yet seen this.
Thanks for reacting!
(By the way if you look at the Facebook page that describes the book – (yes I made it onto Facebook) there is a You-Tube link to a rather unusual book on Peter 1st – cross between a pop-up and a child's adventure book. Really rather unusual and beautifully done. I have managed to track down a book-seller in Russia who a) has it, b) speaks English and c) has been good to deal with to date.
I know some people hate links with .ru as a suffix posted anywhere so if interested let me know and I shall point you in the direction of the website.

"I don't do facebook as a matter of principal" – a man after my own heart!
(My love of books took over my heart that time!)

@ jocknroll,

Do let us know if you are going to stock it – you have at least one order (both vols) from me. Well, actually from my wife who promised me this for my birthday last month.

(I don't do Facebook either – should we have blazers made?)

I've just received the Great Northern War Compendium. I've only skimmed through both volumes, and will write again when I have read more.

However, the books look superb and worth every penny. The range of authors and the topics covered are impressive. Background on all of the armies, their equipment, uniforms and standards, with many full color illustrations is covered. Each battle, both large and small, has an article with maps, OOBs, and a well written narrative. Specialty articles on fortifications, logistics, biographies of major players, and even disease and religious support are all covered! There are many tables and lists sorting out chronologies, campaigns, and units in many of the armies.

Physically, they are attractive volumes with good quality gloss pages, and a very clear and readable layout and font choices.

This appears to be a must buy for anyone interested in this fascinating period and the fascinating personalities of Charles XII, Peter the Great, and many other strong-willed men of this period.

It looks VERY GOOD! More later.
