Any thoughts on types on shields and designs for any of those below Arabs Medes and other eastern lights Thracian – I'm guessing not using crescent shields? Would Thracians still be wearing tribal type clothing designs like in the Greek wars? Native Libyans Nubians |

The famous description of Thracians dressed in black with white thureos shields comes from this period, referring to Thracians in the Macedonian army at Pydna. No reason to believe that other Thracian contingents dressed the same or had the same white shields – look up the Kazanluk paintings. The Africans in the background at
are an interpretation of Nubian troops in a Ptolemaic army, based on Egyptian terracotta figurines. The figurines' shields don't show any pattern, except for a raised rim. See the axeman at link |

The Libyans were equipped as phalangites at Raphia. Jim, have you bought Le Soldat Lagide? That would be a huge help for you. |
