Ah, yes, the waning splendour of a bygone era. She's still, officially, even Queen of Australia !!?? :) But I think the reality of the situation, with contemporary perspective, is as Vigilant & Zargon have said – the British Royals are simply marvellous for British tourism – all the pomp and pageantry and palaces and stuff.

Zargon and Vigilant..i must confess you that, during my last very recent visit to London, my favourite City in the world including people, museums , atmosphere ecc…i bargained with my girfriend the visit (in front of) Buckingham Palace only in exchange of both us attending a match of Millwall Fc at the Den which i enjoyed

Worth knowing that the Queen isn't just given the money – it's supposed to offset the income originally lost by the Queen because of a deal made back in 1760.

Really, lots of the money she gets is for the upkeep of places she doesn't really control.

Plus we don't have to elect a replacement every few years.
