Wow. Saw the headline, thought this was about the bar scene nightlife in Khartoum and wondered "Now what is THAT like?"

I just started 18th-19th century wargaming with Black Powder last year. Right now, I am trying to get a hang of this style of battle from the American Revolution. I have to say I like the Rebellion! supplement to help fill in the blanks for a newbie like me.

I am finding that I enjoy Black Powder quite a bit. Once I get my AWI to a good spot I am thinking about trying this period of the Mahdist Revolt and the Sudan. I didn't know anything about it, but after I read the bit in the Black Powder rule book it really captured my interest.

How do you like Black Powder for the Sudan? Do you have the Blood on the Nile supplement, and if so, would it be useful for someone like me? I have read it isn't as good as Rebellion! supplement but still okay for the uninitiated. Finally, I hope to see more on your blog as it will help convince myself to start that project, and if I do, give me some ideas how.

Last time I was in Khartoum (2000), it was still dry – probably still is – and the best 'night spots' were the cafe in the garden of the Blue Nile Sailing Club (where Lord Kitchener's gunboat sits) and some youth club place where we played pool.

The British Embassy put on an invitation-only piss-up each month, but we were kicked out when one of our (Aussie) mates caused a diplomatic incident. He later wet the bed, proving that one can have a memorable night out anywhere.
