This scenario is provided in the original rulebook, starting on pg. 100.

The problem is that the map shows a unit, 56 PA, which is not listed in the scenario OOB. It is part of Cutler's Brigade on 1 July 1863.

Fortunately, if you own the War in the East supplement, the information is on pg. 41: 56 PA, 4 figures, rifles/muskets, veteran.

There are loads of errors in all three of the books.

Please, which ruleset is "AODF?"

vtsaogames02 Feb 2016 6:38 a.m. PST

My guess is "Across a Deadly Field", John Hill's last set of rules.

Osprey cut the review process that John had to check the galleys down to a few days, in the hope of getting it published by Historicon '14.
They also reformatted John's charts and tables into a multi-page "list" of tables. Their reason being- to fit the format of the books. Much of the elegance of John's original charts was lost.
The original Quick Reference Table is available from CigarBoxBattles.com and John's daughter's tribute site at AcrossaDeadlyField.com

Worst.Rules.Ever.

I know, John, you expressed yourself eloquently when they were published. Of course, I feel differently :-)

Ya know what, pj? I was a long time fan of johnny reb and squad leader.I would make it a point to talk to john at the cons he attended. John was one hell of a game designer and a even better person.
But this "system" was not something john would have wanted to be remembered by. I was so excited when the news of his new acw rules was released, i almost wept with joy.Going so far as offering my club for rules testing.
Then i got the book. I am 100% glad i did'nt pay for it. One of the people my wife paints for somehow got 2 copies by mistake, and as he knew i played acw, gave the extra copy to me. I honestly think its terrible.
I don't see how the game works against what i know about the civil war…

I respect your opinion, John, I just don't share it. I have been studying the Civil War, casually, for some years now, but I have no idea if any existing game system models it well, including JR. I expect that anyone that might know are long gone.
My comment in an earlier post may sound snarky, but I meant it to be light hearted. As a game, I think ADF is fun.
With that said, I hope we can game sometime.

Peace, brother.

John, which aspects don't you like?
