What figures are available, what rules, who are the players, sizes of forces, etc?

Rich Bliss01 Feb 2016 8:19 p.m. PST

British, Mahrattas, French, various smaller Indian states.

I know that there is a Volley and Bayonet supplement independently published out there.

Wellington was never in India. Arthur Wellesley OTOH certainly was.

ArmymenRGreat02 Feb 2016 3:44 a.m. PST

@MajorB – There is a Wellington in India. It's home to the Defence Services Staff College.

Buckeye AKA Darryl02 Feb 2016 3:49 a.m. PST

SJ – Thank you…I rather like those poses! I forgot to mention that I would prefer 15mm or even 10mm.

Hound…thank you as well…I have a copy of the wargaming guide on the way. I have always enjoyed Redoubt figures, but no space for 25/28mm gaming I am afraid.

You will need lots of irregular types that stand around and dont do much but just might. I think that its a tough period to game because of that , but good luck.

@Buckeye

If you do go down the Minifigs route and you want to add some variation to your Indian irregulars then it might be worth looking in the Napoleonic Ottoman and even the Renaissance Ottoman ranges where you might find the odd suitable figure.

Caliver, who make Minifigs, also supply figures by Two Dragons who make a 15mm 'British in India' range. link

I haven't seen these figures in the flesh so I don't know whether the two ranges are compatible.

Freikorps/QRF as well have figures that fit in on the Indian sides.

Buckeye AKA Darryl02 Feb 2016 6:36 a.m. PST

My only issue with MiniFigs is their pricing…kinda charging premium 18mm prices for older 15mm figures. But between the various lines mentioned, it sounds like it may be "doable" in 15mm. Sounds like though, from baxterj's post, that it could be much like the later Sikh Wars, where one has a slew of natives that are not great, and may or may not get involved in any fighting. Could be interesting to run the natives as an umpire commanded force perhaps.

Guess I will wait and see what the gaming guide has in it and how easy or difficult it may be to put together forces.

Thanks, again!

Accounts I've read have Indian infantry almost always fading before bayonet charges.

Some useful figures from my Indus miniatures

Also Eureka and Wargames foundry have some useful figures

Father Grigori03 Feb 2016 3:41 a.m. PST

Irregular miniatures do the period in 15mm and 6mm. The 6mm range is pretty comprehensive.

Buckeye AKA Darryl03 Feb 2016 5:00 p.m. PST

@Ashok: Nice figs, but I am leaning towards a a much smaller scale!

@Father: Hmmm, 6mm might be TOO small, but I will go take a look…thanks!!!
