A friend of mine does 28mm WW II, a scale I dont work in. He was wondering about the quality of the Rubicon line of vehicles. Also what other vehicle ranges do they match well with.

Thank you

I thought this was a pretty balanced review:

I got hung up on the lack of track detail on my T-34, but otherwise thought it was a fine kit.

Forgive my interjecting this, but we have certainly come a long way in tank models in 54mm! My dad gave me a rubber tank in 1941, and also a White scout car by the same maker. The picture below is of one of these tanks – a pre-war US Medium tank?

The only toy soldiers we had were probably about 60mm, some solid, some hollow-cast, some plastic, and it was not until 1947 when I saw Britains Ltd and Authenticast figures in 54mm. To go with them, I made my own tanks from shirt cardboards from my dad's laundered shirts, with linings of lightbulb packaging cut and glued together as tracks, with wooden spools from thread as road wheels.

Thanks for the memory!

The Rubicon I have found are very good, much better than the plastic Warlord models. I love them and have purchased about… 7 of their kits so far. I plan to buy more when they are released more kits. They are all 1/56 scale so if you are fine with that I would heartily recommend them.

I built the Rubicon Panther straight out the box…

Well produced kits with a great variety of versions in the same box. I've built the Panther and the Crusader so far and am looking forward to their Sdkfv 250 range and c few figures. They fit well with my Perry and Warlord vehicles and figures.

The rubber tank looks like an M2 medium (predecessor of the M3 without the hull mounted 75mm M2 gun. The turret should be a 37mm and the barrel looks too short but otherwise a recgonizable model.

I love the ones I've done, Shermans and M-8 Scott SP Gun.

Easy to assembly, good detail.

I'm hoping Brigade Games here in the US stocks the whole line!

To me Warlord and Rubicon are about equal. The Rubicon M4 Sherman was a big disappointment however, the turret for the 76mm version is very poorly done.

Great input, many thanks! So Warlord kits match Rubicon it appears.

Chuckaroobob NWS-Online seems to stock the whole line here in the US:

The Rubicon kits that I have built so far (Panther, M5A1, M3 HT), are far better quality than the Warlord Cromwell that I have done.

kallman06 Feb 2016 11:05 a.m. PST

I am with rovens I prefer the Rubicon kits over the Warlord plastics. I have built several Panzer IV kits, and recently purchased a Panzer III kit to make into a J version and Rubicon just released a M-10 which I also purchased. The Warlord kits are not bad I just think the Rubicon are cleaner and have better assembly.

To Marc33594, thank you for mentioning my store. Yes I do carry the entire Rubicon line and due to receive the 3 new model sets early this coming week. :)

Thanks

Is the Rubicon a good match for Blitzkreig vehicles as well? I've read of problems with getting Blitzkreig models to take acrylic paint without a fair bit of washing and scrubbing, I presume Rubicon being plastic are pretty straightforward to paint?

snurl110 Feb 2016 11:56 p.m. PST

Prime them with Army Painter and you are good to go.
Armory primer works well too.

kallman23 Feb 2016 10:14 a.m. PST

Yes I've had some problems with the Blitzkreig kits holding primer even after a good scrubbing with warm water and soap. Normally the matter is fixed after I sealed the model. The Rubicon kits being plastic take primer extremely well.
