What's with this nonsense? Who came up with that?
They are both Good Guys, and charter members of the Justice League!

Harrumph.

Agreed. This is what happens when the screenwriters and powers-that-be are berift of good ideas. I have no plans on ever watching this dreck.

It's loosely based on the Dark Knight Comic where Batman and Superman fought. Batman won (but he cheated- using Kryptonite), and faked then his death by heartattack.

He didn't cheat. He won the fight the same way Batman always does: with superior strategic planning and tactical thinking. Might as well say Superman is cheating by using his super powers.

in any case, it's a standard superhero trope, though usually the mutual Good Guy fight occurs when they first meet, after which they make up and go kick the bad guys around instead. Kind of like the U.S. and G.B..

It's all about the $

Of course it is! Why else are they making movies?

If Hollywood is involved there are no good guys.

1/3rd of all Superhero stories involve one hero having a bash at another, due to some misunderstanding, evil manipulation, alien mind control etc.

In the case of this movie the makers went through the back catalogue looking for the darkest and grimmest stories they could find and bumped into The Dark Knight Returns.

TDKR is set in an alternative dystopian future, where an aged Batman gets out of retirement to fight crime, but is opposed by the fascistic government and their puppet Superman … In the story Batman has to take down Superman who is trying to bring him in.

Of course the BvS makers ignored the setting and the fact this story assumes there was a decade long friendship between the two. But because Man of Steel didn't do very well Warner/DC panicked and decided to throw in Batman at all costs and thanks to all the people who complained about the poor story and violence porn in MoS they had an excuse to link TDKR to the previous film lying through their teeth "It's what we meant all along …"

Realistically (!) how else could he hope to win ?

They are both Good Guys, and charter members of the Justice League!

Movie wise they haven't met yet – the JLA movie(s) are still a little way off.

Bats had to level the playing field since Supes would otherwise squash him like a bug.

Nonsense? If Marvel can have their own "Civil War" pitting Avengers against each other in the next Captain America installment based on their graphic novel series, why can't DC adapt Frank Miller's classic in this movie?

People love to see their favorite heroes fight. It's what makes Bat in the Sun's "Super Power Beat Down" videos on Youtube so popular.

The Angry Piper25 Jan 2016 12:32 p.m. PST

Cheated? No. Batman leveled the playing field.

Of course, the fact that he can outfight Superman blindfolded maybe doesn't level it so much as tilt it towards his favor. Forced to fight with no superpowers, a relatively un-aged Superman could barely hold his own against a sixty-something Batman.
