in the band of brothers series there was a scene where they came across a American of German descent serving in the German army
now back to the battle of Britain a number of Americans volunteered to fight with the raf eventually becoming eagle squadron,
question did many German/Americans volunteer to serve with the Luftwaffe (was there a specific squadron?)

Well, there is at least some fiction on the subject: link

There was a novel years back, can't remember the Title or author, that had an American pilot volunteering for the Finnish air-force during Finland's first invasion by the Russians. He stayed there, fighting Russians, which put him on the Axis side by default.

TLDR: Looks like a relatively tiny numbers of Americans fought for the Germans. Confirmed total appears to be in the low double digits. The caveat is that lots of Germany's records were destroyed in the war. I couldn't find anything on the Luftwaffe specifically.

There were undoubtedly some. The "Bund" movement in the US prior to the war was fairly strong. While I don't know about pilots specifically there were IIRC two Americans and three Britons in the SS. However there never was a Luftwaffe Staffel composed entirely of Americans.

The guy in JCD1974's link deserted in a plane but never served as a Luftwaffe pilot.
