Recently I picked up a slew of mostly CinC Cold War era micro armor, nearly 90% is unpainted. The castings are old, showing a bit of aging in the metal, and I would like to know if there is anything readily available in the States I can wash or soak them in to bring back a bit of their crispness before painting. |

Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber: best cleaner I've found for metal. You can usually find it in Wal Mart or any sporting goods store. Not cheap, but one can lasts a long time. You only need a little for large cleaning jobs. |

You could try soaking them in Simply Green. It can be gotten from any of the home improvement centers. |

Your inquiry leads me to ask "Why?" Maybe I have made errors, but I have assumed that any "aging" is a factor of exposure to oxygen etc. I prime, paint and then varnish all figures so -- as a guy that also finds himself with lots of older metal -- I do not try to polish just cover and presume that this stops any further oxidation (if that is the right term) etc. Am I in error? |

I think you need to clean them to ensure good bonds of paint and primer with the metal. Simple Green soak overnight does wonders. Rescue those old minis! I love buying up old micro armor and turning it into quality game pieces! |

Coca cola would probably work! |
