As stated, I'm looking for a good easy set of WWII solo rules. Any suggestions? |

Nuts! by Two Hour Wargames is supposed to be great for solo games. You might check there first. Personally I have trouble understanding the reaction system, but most don't and seem to love the mechanic. |

Second "Nuts!" for skirmish gaming. For a glimpse into the THW gaming system you can download the generic rules for free: link And there are always people on the forum available to help you with the reaction system if you need it:

Jim, Since when are you a solo gamer? |

I would definitely recomend a try before you buy for the THW system. It takes a bit of getting used to and is not for everyone. It's biggest feature, both positive and negative, is the reaction system which can feel like it is taking control of your figures away from you. Star characters have more freedom of action than it at first appears, and having the system handle the grunts is quite nice for solo gaming. Reading any of Ed's many THW battle reports here on TMP will give you a sense of the games play. |

While not solo per se Combat Patrol is easy to play solo. As stated some people love the Chain Reaction system and it is free to try. Joe |

THW is pretty much the Mecca for solo gaming as far as I'm concerned. I just played some NUTS solo yesterday actually. I actually prefer some of the mechanisms in the older 2nd edition though. A word of warning being some of the language is confusing at times, and that the rules are off the beaten path a bit. great games though. as a solo games you owe it to yourself to give them a try, although I must admit that it did take me until playing with someone else until I really "got it" If you do buy them, join the Yahoo group, there are a bunch of freebies there including the ever strange omission of indirect fire in NUTS. As previously suggested, go to their site and download Chain Reaction and play a game. Its free! |

Thanks to everyone who offered their suggestions. Nick, being retired gives me more time to game so a solo game makes sense. |

Tactical Combat Rules WWII – free on the Lone Warrior ewb page. PDF link There have been several articles on these rules in Lone Warrior magazine, and they look interesting & good for solo play (but I haven't tried them myself yet). |

I really like Hell hath no fury from Two Hour Wargames, but this is only tanks. The forth coming Airfix battles has some nice simple solo rules if you have a box full of 1:72 figures and tanks (or a longing to revisit your youth!) Cheers, Furgie |
