Has anyone read this book, if so what did you think? |

Excellent book. As the title implies, it argues that the increase in defensive firepower will cause WW3 to end as WW1. See "The Zone" series of military novels from the 80's. |

So glad I work at a University, I can get this through the Library. Seems to be a bit rare, Amazon for $50 USD+ and Ebay for over a hundred. |

As the title implies, it argues that the increase in defensive firepower will cause WW3 to end as WW1. I'm not sure that's a good/accurate conclusion, as the massive mobility possible with a modern military makes WW1-style defensive positions easy to bypass. In fact, that's WHY a modern military is highly mobile, to prevent a war from devolving into a repeat of WW1! |

Of course that mobility relies on everybody being able to keep their units supplied with the enormous fuel and maintenance demands of modern warfare, while under potentially chemical and nuclear conditions :-) |

Weasel has the right of it. Which is one big reason why the US put a high priority on interdiction during the '80s. Cut the supply line (even temporarily) and those Sov spearheads come to a grinding halt. And even if there's only a corporal's guard between them and the Rhine, without fuel, food, and ammo, they're going nowhere (except a POW pen). |
