"T he Indian Army is built upon a long and proud tradition of valour. During World War I, Indians formed a large contingent of soldiers in Europe, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean. Over 1 million (10 lakh) troops from undivided India served overseas, of which over 60,000 were killed. Claude Auchinleck, who was commander-in-chief of the Indian Army, had said that the British "couldn't have come through both wars if they hadn't had the Indian Army." Great. Surprising how western media etc has not shown a light on the great contributions of not only the Indians but of other non white nations.
I thank the miniature manufactures that create these troops.

There is actually an Indian re-enactment group in the UK which does a lot of work to bring this to the attention of the public – this brief article, and interview, explain how:-

The oldest VC to die on active service in WW1 was Lord Roberts of Kandahar. Asked to inspect Indian troops newly arrived in France, in November 1914, he refused to wear a greatcoat as the men he was inspecting had left them behind at the docks when they landed, and later died from pneumonia.

My home town is Brighton in Sussex, England.

There is a memorial on the South Downs that can be seen from most of Brighton to the Indian soldiers that died from wounds in WW1 whilst being treated at the Royal Pavillion palace in Brighton, that was being used as a hospital at the time.
