Hello people,

I'm uprooting from my Cambridge, UK, home, and moving to Richmond in the next month, and, obviously, I'd like to carry on this gaming thang!

So, and gamers, and/or clubs in Richmond?

Thanks, y'all!

John

Not sure about Richmond, but you might check Albright's in Lexington.

I hope your move goes well. There will be a time of culture shock. 😀

I love that town. Very nice place. Check Albright's, if they're still in business. They had some issues, one of the owners lost a good friend. Not sure what happened after that.

While I cannot help you with gaming (although I am north in Cincinnati, about 1.75 hours drive time), you are going to have a Civil War battlefield as your neighbor, as well as another one 45 minutes or so away.

Albrights is now battleforge. Same location..Good group of gamers both historical and sci-fi/fantasy in and around the area.
I'm in knoxville – 2 hours south of you. I've made it up there in the past for shopping, gaming and tournaments. Good crowd. there are few webgroups you should check out. HMGS-GL, HMGS-MidSouth are similar to SoA & BHGS. They have memberships on the various yahoogroups site and have contact information for members…

Good luck with your move… I can be reached via sgjeske@gmail.com when you settle in….

Holy crap, John, I thought you were a dyed in the rule Brit!!!!

Of course, you're going to be able to have a great house for the money, compared to the Cambridge area….probably a basement MUCH larger than your shed.

Ray (the American who used to belong the Huntingdon club, years ago)

Just did a quick check on realtor.com….your Huntingdon/Cambridge mates will be jealous.

Thanks guys, looks like Battleforge is my first stop.

Hello Raylev, of course I remember you, we were all sad to see you go, I remember our 'Kasserine/Singapore' banter very well! hahahahahaha.

I'm moving out there because I've met the most beautiful girl, who wants to marry me, and I thought I'd better get out there quick, before she changes her mind!

Thanks for the help. hoping some gamers read this thread, and get in touch.

There is a very nice shop called pet shop comics in Louisville, KY. About 2 hours down 64.

Mkultra9919 Jan 2016 7:50 p.m. PST

Yep PetShopComics in Louisville is what's up. You can check out the 'Falls of the Ohio Gamers' facebook group also.

I think you've been in the states before, but I think what you're going to have to get used to, when it comes to gaming, is driving a long time. Fortunately many of the biggest CONs, which really are about gaming and not the vendors, are on the east coast. We think nothing of driving 3-5 hours (and more for some) to get in some gaming.

You will learn that when it comes to wargaming, the UK streets are paved with gold.

You'll be here in time to head down to Nashcon in TN.

Buckeye AKA Darryl21 Jan 2016 4:19 a.m. PST

You do have some decent cons to choose from. As 79th mentioned, Nashcon is not far, and about 30 minutes north of Cincinnati is CincyCon, a mixed affair of gaming (historical, sci-fi, fantasy, RPG, etc.).

Cincinnati does not have one great gaming shop, but several that have their pros and cons. The iconic Boardwalk was the place to grab CinC back in the day, but they are mostly modelling and boardgaming these days.

Welcome to Kentucky, we all carry firearms and spit watermelon seeds at each other…..we love our dogs as much or more so than our young'uns and we say yes ma'am and yes sir to everybody. Bourbon is the state flower, errrr drink. What the hell is the state flower and this isn't even a state anyway. Our politics are rediculous, the best restaurants are in Louisville, ranked number ten in the nation. And I hope you know what a basketball looks like, frankly I find the sport dreadfully boring. Bolt action, FOW, black powder, Lion Rampant, and Saga are popular with historical sites here. As is the usual GDW but they seem to be going thru a bit of – well, they suck!

I thought that there might be a lady involved – it's how I ended up in Denmark.

Anyway, congratulations, John. Might you also dig out your spurs and get involved in the ACW Reenactment scene?

Hope the move went well thumbs up

John ,,welcome to Kentucky. I can not say for the Lexington area ,but there is a good sized group in Bowling Green and another in the Louisville area. The group from Bowling Green has a face book Page .. The Southern Kentucky Warlords.. We can get you contact info for the Louisville Group and others not far away. If you have made it to the states by the last weekend in May there is a real good gaming convention just south of Nashville over the memorial day weekend. You can message me here of look me up on face book …Tim Young from Waverly , Tennessee.
