"As the crew of the battleship Wisconsin man the rails of the ship in August of 1990 the engines belch black smoke as the ship eases from the pier at the Norfolk Naval Base. The Wisconsin was heading for the Persian Gulf and eventually action in Desert Storm. (Bill Tiernan/ The Virginian-Pilot) Retired Navy gunner and current tour guide Mike Carr squeezed through a small port of a gun turret on the battleship Wisconsin. I remember doing an UNREP with her when she was headed back. We saw little Iraqi flags on the turrets and had to ask what they were for… Eric |

Anyone know where she is now? I was just in Norfolk at the base and I didn't see her there. She used to be down at Pier 1, but now there is a hospital ship there (Mercy or Comfort… not sure). |
