In MW 392 there's an article about the Stono Slave Rebellion in South Carolina in 1739. It contains a system for gaming the entire outbreak as a campaign. It occurred to me that the sequence of events described bears a close resemblance to the Ribbon Gang convict revolt in NSW in 1830, and that the campaign system would be easily adaptable with some minor tweaks to either the historical event or any hypothetical convict rebellion of similar scale (the danger of such outbreaks was a constant throughout the convict era). The main changes required would be to replace the slave's adversaries with the convicts' pursuers (gentlemen mounted volunteers, military mounted police, and British infantry), and to substitute the convict's ultimate objective (to reach the coast, capture a boat, and escape from NSW) for that of the slaves. |

Nice idea, could also work for the 1804 Irish rebellion |

That's an upscaling by more than an order of magnitude, Bluewillow. For authenticity I think it would require some major changes to the system. The Ribbon Gang episode is an easier transposition because the numbers involved are on a par with the Stono incident. |
