A New Year brings a new crop of articles over at the Solo Wargamers Association's Lone Warrior web-site :

Godfrey Bailey reviews and replays a solo game of The Khyber Ablaze (in two parts) PDF link PDF link

Jonathan Aird reviews Raid 33 U-47 in Scapa Flow: The Sinking of HMS Royal Oak 1939 PDF link – an excellent read it appears. He also takes a look at Command 31 Attila the Hun PDF link which is more of a mixed bag.

Taken from Lone Warrior 166 there's a thought provoking article by Steve Turner on making 6mm armies from scratch materials PDF link

George Falco de Mats provides a fascinating look at Napoleonic Ski Troops. PDF link

Jonathan Aird also gives an assessment of the novel Warrior of Rome: Wolves of the North
By Harry Sidebottom PDF link .

Alongside this are a number of useful news items by Rob Morgan, and a couple of Society updates – The Tables of Contents for LW have been expanded and there is a note on the New Year sale to dispose of the last few paper copies of Lone Warrior.

Well, I've book marked the 6 mm article – I've been thinking of doing SYW and this fits right in. And I think I can manage the artillery to suit me. Curious approach but simple. And cost wise its easy. And I can get wooden matches easy enough here in my part of USA.

@EMW-

It's no Hair Roller Army, but easy enough to give it a try.

The hair roller armies always looked to be quite a lot of work, which although I admire the idea I'm just too lazy to contemplate.

The matchsticks I'm thinking of doing for some rules I just want to try out.

I'd be interested to hear more about how you would paint these!

I quite liked the suggestion in the article of printing off blocks of figures to then stick onto the matchsticks.
