All

I was fortunate enough to receive some paint sets from the "Foundry Painting System" this Christmas – I was just wondering, is the official book that accompanies the sets worth purchasing?

It is very expensive, and I was wondering if anyone else has used it and if they found it useful or not?

Thanks in advance

They aren't official Foundry guides but Kevin Dallimore has a couple of how to books out that highlight the Foundry three paint method. If you look around im sure you can find a better price than this:

and

I found the first one very helpful the second less so. I think I paid around $40 USD for each.

Also, Steve Dean uses a similar method and you might be able to find some tips for free by checking out the Steve Dean Painting Forum, you can get to the Forum from his site here:

Best of luck!

As Bigdan says the first is well worth it , maybes not at the ebay prices, and the second book not really worth it.
I found the first book to be extremely helpful and got me started and would highly recommend to anyone starting out painting. I bought mine directly from foundry for 40ish .
The second one I wouldn't bother with , I bought it thinking it would be an add on or expanded techniques from the first but didn't really do anything for me.
Keep an eye out on ebay or any 'cons you may go to , they do come up now and again.

It depends on whether you want to paint in the Dallimore style. Personally I am not fond of his system. I prefer to paint over white primed figures and use washes to get the texturing that we all want. So the question is, do you want to paint over black primed figures and use his layering system (I should add that a friend of mine black primes but paints in a totally different style and I love the effect.)
