I'm looking for buildings for my 28mm Northern Crusades project and as near as I can find the native housing of the Baltic pagans were tiny primitive log cabins, hovels even. Does anyone know a good source for simple log cabins or if there's any information on 13th cent Baltic pagan buildings please let me know! Thanks |

There's a little bit of advice IIRc in the Society of Ancients booklet "Wargaming the Baltic Crusdaes". I think he just used simple log cabins round and square with thatched roofs IIRC. |

Yeah, they're pretty much like any other eastern Europe log house with a thatched roof! I modelled mine with smoke holes in the roof but Dalauppror did his with stone chimneys, not sure which is more correct. The SoA booklet is pretty useful and only about £5.00 GBP uric. Make sure you model a frozen lake for your crusading knight's to ride over |

Pegasus makes some nice hard-plastic buildings in 1/72 scale, at quite reasonable prices, which work pretty well with 28mm figures. They go together nicely, and paint up well. link link |

The Osprey books on the Rus (two volumes) I believe may have had some images. Many of the Viking inspired log homes were dug underground so steps down and roof almost flush with ground. Not in marshy areas though! |

There were also Muslim villages (Tartars) given permission to live there, with teligious freedom, at that time for helping repel the crusades. |

Would these work by covering with window panes with a curtain? link |

DIY jobbies using BBQ skewers and pieces of felt for the roof, perhaps? |
