…Neighborhood.

"RT footage from a drone flying over a Damascus neighborhood shows the scale of destruction inflicted upon it by years of warfare. The once-thriving area has been turned into a desolate, gray concrete wasteland.

The video was shot in the Dukhania neighborhood in eastern Damascus, which has changed hands several times during the civil war and at one point served as a staging ground for terror group the Al Nusra Front planning attacks on downtown in the capital…"

Gives some idea of what to represent on the tabletop. Piles of rubble…

I used to think all those post-apocalyptic stories and games were silly, but it appears that the Syrians are living it.

A terrible shame.

Looks like 1970s/1980s Beirut came back to haunt them.

Civil Wars are never pretty.

Took my attention that you don't see many furniture in the destroyed houses/buildings…

Armand-
Interesting observation. I went back and replayed the video. I was originally looking at the construction of the buildings and how tightly packed together they are. I hadn't really noticed the lack of furnishings.

Not the best source of info but many movies depict sparse furnishings. Maybe some was looted or burned as fuel for cooking fires. I'm sure many utilities were sporatic if not off entirely.

I'm sure some folks grabbed what they could and ran from the area at various times. That accounts for some lack of furnishings and belongings…

I almost expected to see the ruined Reichstag in the scene somewhere (shades of Berlin – 1945).

Well… a single broken chair there…? (smile)

Maybe people pick up their furniture and run!…
