"On September 11th, 2012, the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya was attacked by Islamic militias. This attack resulted in the death of US Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. After the terrible events, the 2012 Benghazi Attack became a political football with the Right and Left using the attack for their own personal gain. In 2014, Mitchell Zuckoff wrote a book about the events called 13 Hours with the surviving members of the Annex Security Team. That book was transformed into this 2016 film directed by Michael Bay. I saw this on the larger-than-god big screen at AT&T Cowboy Stadium in Arlington at the red carpet premier for free on January 12th. This event was also a benefit for the Shadow Warriors Project…"

I recommend the book – a great read. Lots of details and maps and drawings.

+1, Terrement.

P.S. What's the deal with the YouTube vid?

Mako1113 Jan 2016 7:22 p.m. PST

Looks to be a must-see movie, in my book.

Good to see them making something like this about real heroes, as opposed to those overpaid fake sports "heroes" (I use the latter term very loosely, hence why it is in quotes), and overly coddled celebrities.

I prefer the term willful negligence.

The CIA Is Not Happy With The Movie '13 Hours'

"A spokesman for the CIA is criticizing the Michael Bay movie "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi" as a "distortion of the events and people who served in Benghazi that night."

The spokesman, Ryan Trapani, was quoted in an exclusive Washington Post story, which also features an interview with the CIA chief in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012, when Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others were killed in a siege of the diplomatic compound and attack on the CIA annex.

"No one will mistake this movie for a documentary," Tripani told the Post. "It's a distortion of the events and people who served in Benghazi that night. It's shameful that, in order to highlight the heroism of some, those responsible for the movie felt the need to denigrate the courage of other Americans who served in harm's way."…"

No surprise … but again … Bleeped text happens when the shooting starts in places like that, etc., … And this movie if seen by enough people, could influence politics in 2017 ?

""13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi" as a "distortion of the events and people who served in Benghazi that night.""

Fortunately, they'll have plenty of time to walk these statements back as they did with the initial statements following the attack itself.

Just saw it and yes, the CIA people do come off badly.

The kids in the row of seats ahead of ours were very upset that there weren't any Transformers in the movie.

Excellent film. Best movie on contemporary combat since 'Black Hawk Down': link

Fanatik,

The only thing I questioned was the amount of terrorists they supposedly killed in the movie. My count it was around/over 50. Can that be accurate or was that just the way movies are made with lots of villains getting killed?

I wasn't paying attention to the bodycount, but 50 sounds about right. The defense of the CIA annex took a much larger toll than at the diplomatic compound of course, since they were prepared for it and had time to establish kill zones.

I would like to know why the bandits waited so long before using the mortar. I may have to read the book now.
