They didn't finish the first Kickstarter (it's in the final hours). I think I'd wait to see the outcome of the first KS. |
Shieldwolf Miniatures | 12 Jan 2016 6:01 p.m. PST |
@TheKing30 Actually not only did we fully complete our KS-1 on time, some backers received their items up to 2 months earlier than promised. You must be confusing us with someone else. ;-) |

Yes I have had my KS1 stuff for quite a while now, and the figures are really nice, especially the war mammoth and the ogre handgunners. I am definitely in on the 2nd one. I would like to add that Shieldwolf completed their KS under pretty trying circumstances, considering the economic conditions in Greece. They deserve a lot of credit for that. |

@TheKing30, They completed their first KS at end of last year, Nov i think it was when i got my items and i was in the last wave! The Mammooth,2 Headed Dragon, Trolls and Shieldmaiden heroes i received were excellent casts and sculpts, Shieldwolf are excellent with their communications, always keeping us updated regularly and are always checking the comment section every other day So based on my past experience il be backing this 110% |

They have cancelled the kickstarter – they weren't getting the response they had hoped for and want to formulate a new strategy In my opinion – this is a great example of how a kickstarter should work. They want the cash influx to fund production and the customer feedback on likely demand. You shouldn't be annoyed if you pledged because you don't get charged They got the feedback (demand less than they expected). They can now put it together in a different way and they are not bankrupt. They did incur costs in producing the kickstarter in terms of artwork and so on, but this will not go to waste in the long term John |

I think companies should take the funding goal seriously. If $30 USDK won't actually make the project work, don't put $30 USDK as your funding goal and cancel the project when its around $39 USDK. I get it that companies might want their KS to blow up like Reaper Miniatures Bones and are trying to figure out how to make that happen. However if someone says they need X when they know X isn't enough, then they're starting off with a foundation of a mistake or worse, a lie. |
Shieldwolf Miniatures | 06 Feb 2016 5:39 a.m. PST |
@MattofWar We agree and I assure you we weren't expecting it to blow up like Bones but we did have higher expectations, that's why we had discussed the target so much before launching. People who had been following us before this KS launched know this and we had repeatedly stated that we wanted 2 full armies (our KS-1 was for 5(!) full armies, yet no-one ever complained about starting off with the $5 USDK! funding goal). We don't know how *big* these armies would be, but unlocking two plastic kits and having to wait yet one more year didn't meet the creator's expectations. Our main mistakes seem a combination of bad communication and higher/false expectations for our game and the costs it involved. To prove to people we mean business and are certainly not fooling around, the new funding goal is again going to be $30 USDK since that's what's needed for the cofunding of the 1st plastic kit; we didn't back out when things were falling apart in our KS-1 we certainly won't back out now with so many people actively supporting us even after the cancellation (over 700+ comments at the KS section after cancelling alone!). We trust our trying to answer as many people (and in as many threads) as possible shows how we are eager to interact with people and certainly not avoiding any criticism, we assume full responsibility for what has happened and still believe this was the right thing to do. Cancelling the project was a blow to us. If you like to read more about it in our newsletter over at our FaceBook page, it should clarify things better. :-) |

I get that the combination of backer rewards can add up to making the original goal not viable. It's probably really easy to accidentally structure what you give to your backers in a way that its not viable at certain funding levels. That's something that you need to address with your accountant in the planning stages. From my perspective though, if a KS reaches its goal and somehow that is considered a failure instead of a success there's probably been some mistake in terms of the accounting or the original goal just isn't true. So if the new goal is also going to be $30 USDk, if it funds to $30,001 USD then you've met your goal and you'll actually make the kit in question? Scenario 1: SWM: Help us make X. We need 30K Backers: Sure. Here's 39K SWM: Actually we really want to make X + Y + Z. Project cancelled! Backers: ??? Scenario 2: SWM: Help us make X. We need 30K Backers: Sure. Here's 30K SWM: Alright, here's X. We hoped you'd fund more so we can make Y + Z as well, but I guess we'll have a separate campaign for that. Backers: Thanks. We'll check out the next campaign too! |
Shieldwolf Miniatures | 07 Feb 2016 11:27 p.m. PST |
Except from our perspective that's not the scenario that played out. :-) Scenario 3: SWM: Help us make Y. In order to do so, let's start with X. We need 30K. Backers: Sure. Here's 41K. SWM: Yeah, we'll need more for Y though. Backers: *(potential, not those already involved) -"There's not enough value" -"We are not interested in the game" -"We didn't notice game rules were part of this KS" [project stalls and backdrifts to 39K] SWM: Thank you. We will cancel and re-launch after fixing our mistakes and aiming mostly at what BOTH parties want so everyone is happy. Backers: Thank you. We'll check that out when it's ready! At the aftermath and looking at it today, Scenario 2 might have been a good choice to go with, but I think you'll agree with us @MattofWar that at this point it's futile talking about what *could have happened*. Yes, relaunching KS-2.5 might not even fund and in that case we'll have simply lost our investment (because this simply will never go into retail, simple as that) or have to wait out even more months to work on it even more! When something's not looking right, the right thing to do is fix it; if this means altering the entire project, then the sound yet hard thing to do is cancel. We really don't comprehend how cancelling can be perceived as bad (I would if someone cancelled 24 hours prior to ending the funding period), there's something really wrong here! Please bear in mind that (unlike most projects you'll have seen and/or backed), we are heavily co-funding this just like we did with KS-1, meaning that not only we are willing to do all this almost labor-free for future prosperity, we are putting our money in it also! I hope this makes it even more clear :-) |

We'll need less than 120 more backers for the free stretch goal! 4 days left to go, let's see how this awesome ride finishes! :-D |
