Looks like they lost their domain registration.

Are they still active?

Last I heard the owner was seriously ill.

I usually see him at a show down south next month, I'll watch out for him.

I hope he is doing better, but last I recall illness was an issue.

I don't think they've sold anything for 10+ years, at least via their website.

I had some stuff I wanted, e.g. from their old Coastal Forces range, along with some of their pirate vessels.

A shame he didn't/doesn't get a backer/partner, or sell/lease some of the molds off to others.

A real loss to the gaming community.

My thoughts exactly Mako11, some of the original SDD stuff was unique, and sadly missed.

The loss of Steve and Janice of SDD to the hobby was a very sad day. I enjoyed making masters for Steve, there were a number of models that I did which I don't think ever saw the light of day as far as production was concerned (plus the masters disappeared)

I totally agree David, Steve and Janice stayed over at my house once, when they came up for the show at Newcastle Guildhall. Couldn't meet a nicer couple, or enthusiastic proprietor.

I made a few attempts to contact them a while ago – nothing. I get the impression that they haven't been trading for some years now.

@artaxerxes
Steve and Janice were the original owners of SDD, but sold all to Stronghold Miniatures, whose owner is now ill.

I've had an update through the grapevine that the current owner of Stronghold Miniatures has improved in health terms. I have no information on his trading status.

JimDuncanUK15 Jan 2016 12:17 p.m. PST

I have been in contact with the owner of Stronghold Miniatures. He tells me that he had suffered renal failure and has had a kidney transplant. He is still making regular hospital visits and also suffers from the side effects of the anti-rejection medication. He has no immediate plans about restarting Stronghold as a business.

Please give him the time and space necessary to get his life back into order and maybe one day he will be able to make some decisions about his former business. Until then I'm sure everyone who knows him will wish him a steady and speedy recovery from a life threatening condition.

Thank You.
