Here's a quick 3d print I designed and printed yesterday ---

I made this version just to test the ratios and concept. I'm going to change a few things, but I think this one is good enough to use. :D

Nicely done…those are very handy.

Although at first glance I thought you had started to sell industrial music:

What model of printer did you use?

I think I'd better look at getting a printer.

Great stuff.
What model printer did you use?
About how long did that take to print?

Pulp Alley12 Jan 2016 4:33 p.m. PST

@ cory and Random -- I printed this on an Objet 30. Not the top of the line but still quite good… and still quite expensive.

It's not my printer but I get to play with it when no one is looking.

@ Random -- I printed a handful of other pieces on the same plate and the whole job took about 6 hours. Just guessing it would have taken about 3 hours by itself.

Looks great!

"What a fascinating modern age we live in."

I'm something of a luddite when it comes to this type of thing, but how much clean up did you have to do to get it to look like that? Or is that how it actually looks when it comes out of the machine?

Pulp Alley13 Jan 2016 4:03 p.m. PST

@ Among -- I set this to print "glossy" so the top surface comes out looking just like this. However, the reverse side has a layer of support material (goo), but a quick 2 minutes in the power washer takes care of that.

There's no trimming or any other clean up needed.

A few folks asked about what the other side looked like, so here's a photo. The recessed areas are to make sure the windows have different depths ---

The back has a matte finish and a smidge more texture. I may print one without a gloss front and see how it looks.

I decided to make the whole thing much more modular so it would be easier to mix-n-match pieces and add variations ---

It looks something like this when put together ---

Those look great. Are you going to make the files available to purchase?
