There will be a number of Combat Patrol(TM) games at Cold Wars in March. The PEL was posted in the last 48 hours. Get on line and register to try these new rules. While Combat Patrol was written for World War II, note that people are using them for other periods as well.

S309: To Lose a Battle
Sat 7:00:00 PM, 3 hrs, 6 Players
GM: John Surdu and HAWKS
Period: World War II, Scale: 20mm
Rules: Combat Patrol: World War II
It is late May 1940. French and German forces battle in a rare tank-on-tank engagement. Players control squads of infantry or armored vehicles in this short, sharp engagement. Combat Patrol uses cards to resolve not only activation but combat. This is a very fast, dice-less, and chart-less, but not simplistic, system. Younger gamers welcome with a participating adult. No booze, please.

S313: The Battle Before the Battle
Sat 7:00:00 PM, 4 hrs, 6 Players GM: Duncan Adams and HAWKS Period: Napoleonic, Scale: 25mm Rules: Combat Patrol
Battalions formed; lines dressed; banners flying. The drums start and one line begins moving, steadily closing toward the inevitable, violent collision. But before the lines close there is another battle which must be fought first – between the closing lines. Today we fight that battle of light infantry struggling to weaken the enemy's line while protecting its own.

(NOTE: This last one is currently listed incorrectly in the PEL and is supposed to be on Friday night. I'm not sure how that will be resolved.)

Combat Patrol for Napoleonic's.. interesting. I've played 3 or 4 WW2 games that have worked out well. We are now working hidden movement into the game. May need to signup for this one.

I've played in a few of Duncan's playtests for his Napoleonic version, and they are exciting and a lot of fun. As the commander of a group of skirmishers, not only do you have the enemy to deal with, but your own battalion is marching slowly but surely forward behind you, so you need to keep up with their advance. Then when the lines draw near, you have to decide between suppressing the enemy's skirmishers opposite you, or start sniping at the enemies line officers in hopes of giving you battalion a better chance at victory.

Mind sharing how you're doing that?

There are optional spotting rules that work very well for hidden units.

I've watched Duncan's skirmisher game before and can add my recommendation to the endorsement by Chris.

All the Combat Patrol games look impressive. In the past, I've said that you can have a good time at an HMGS convention without ever leaving the HAWKS Room. Now I can update that recommendation to say that you can have fun just playing in the Combat Patrol games in the HAWKS Room.

Enjoy the games. Hope to see you there.

Wow. Thanks for the complements. Looking forward to seeing you at Cold Wars.

Well deserved and well earned, Colonel, both by you and your club.

Good luck with the new rules.
